Default Teaching my dog how to walk without pulling

I have a female labrador retreiver shes 53 lbs and she is 10months old. Shes a pretty small dog so she dosn't pull me to a point where I can't walk but it is pretty terrible to walk her. Now I've watched many youtube videos of "how to train your dog how to walk" and I found that all the dogs being taught or the techniques they give you are/for mild tempered dogs. My dog instantly when u start walking forward beings to pull, and its a running pull. if u stop she will sit beside you, you start moving and she runs and pulls. I tried giving loose leash walking and then turning when she starts to pull (which is instant) but when I do that she will turn and jump up on me, I say down and she seems confused and it almost pumps her up even more. I would like to say I do see myself as a pack leader, anywhere im going inside the house she will follow always behind me, she will never enter a room without me going in first, if she grabs an object shes not supposed to have I tell her to put it down and she does. Im just having alot of trouble with her on a leash, shes like an untamed horse the way she jumps on a leash. Anyone help?

Suggest you look on line for a gentle leader instead of a standard collar and leash. There are different styles out there to help curb this behavior.

I walk 3 saint bernards and a pyrenees without getting pulled down the street. Wanna know how I did it? If my dog would pull, I would just stop and stand there until it would stop pulling. It might take a while and you might not get very far but take the amount of time you plan on walking and use it as a training session for walking so it doesn't take you any more time than normal. But if your dog is pulling at all, don't continue until it stops.

Whew! She sounds like a tough case!

I also have trouble with my Aussie, although she's a "bouncer" rather than a "puller"; she just doesn't seem to get it that when she gets to the end of the leash, she either yanks on herself, or I get to yank on her.

The only way I've been able to get her to walk beside/behind me on a slack leash is to keep her on a short leash, and when she gets ahead of me, swing my foot straight out to the side from the hip (she walks on my left side, so I use my left foot) so that I bump her with my shoe. It looks like I'm kicking her, but I'm actually just tapping her. The idea is to interrupt or distract her so that she stops what she's doing (pulling) and returns her attention to me. Then, of course, she wants to cross behind me to my right side. That's fine, but she gets the same treatment with my right foot.

Cesar Millan (the Dog Whisperer) does a similar thing with his dogs, except that he uses his opposite leg and reaches behind his other leg to administer the tap, and adds a sharp "Sh!" at the same time. (I don't know how he does that and walk at the same time :-) Unfortunately, I can't use the "Sh!" sound with Mirren because she's deaf.

So, you might want to give one of those two techniques a try. Yeah, it's exhausting--but just think what a great workout your abductors will get!
