Default Interesting House Training Question

My girlfriend and I recently rescued in a 2 year old Male Pomeranian from a home with three other dogs and three little kids and where it was not receiving the love or attention it needed.

Over the past month we have had our wonderful dog it has proven to be very smart as we have started training it since it barely knew its own name when we got it.

The one problem we seem to be having is house-breaking, but not when we are gone. We can both be at work for 9 hours all day, come home to no messes, no chews, nothing but a dog that is very happy to see us. We take him out, he does his business (1 and 2) and then at least three nights a week he will mess in the bathroom. But only while we are home...and this usually happens within an hour or so of him just having gone and he gives no indication he has to go back out. We were wondering if this is just an attention driven behavior, or if there is something else we are missing. We know its not a holding it issue, cause if it was he would mess during the day when we were not home.

Any advice or thoughts? BTW, other than this he is a great dog and is taking to all his new training very well and is a well-mannered, well-behaved dog.

That is wonderful! I love happy stories like this! You're right. That's a pretty unique situation considering most people have the opposite problem.

I have a few questions. Does your dog eat or drink freely when you are away? Or could it be that he is just overfilling himself when you're around and needs an extra bathroom break? Is your dog having the accidents in the same area? Is this an area he has access to when you're not home as well? What do you do when he has an accident?
