Minpin House Training HELP! Please!
I recently got a purebred Minpin from the shelter, which is probably where the problem begins!
The shelter knew nothing about him, even his exact age which is estimated to be between 4 and 7 by the vet. So I'm flying blind here.
When I brought him home, the first night he slept in the bed I bought him fine, but since then, he's up 2-3 times in the night trying (and now succeeding) to get on the bed. I don't want him sleeping on the bed with me, but he doesn't seem to get the hint after being evicted repeatedly! (Eventually, after about 10 minutes or so he does give up, but it's still annoying!)
In addition to this, he's been having problems with going #1 and 2 in the house. I bought a pet toilet, which he does not use. He gets taken out right after he eats at 6:30am, but it's hit or miss whether there's presents for me when I return from work at 5 (I leave at 8:50). He gets fed dinner soon after I arrive home and taken out again right after. I try to take him out before I go to bed also, but he still has accidents in the middle of the night.
Lastly, today I got home after being out 2 hours (I took him out before leaving), and he'd been lying on the bed, and chewed a pen and lipgloss (behaviours he hadn't previously done). What to do?!
Being an older dog and a min pin (who was clearly allowed to go in the house wherever he previously lived), is there any hope or suggestions for either of our problems??! Should I be crating him during the day? The reason that I haven't been is that he's now peed on/in his own bed 3 times, and once on a blanket he likes to sleep on.... :S So, I don't want him sitting in a wet/dirty crate for 8 hours if he goes in there.
Please, please, please, if you can help me out at all, I would really appreciate it!
