Default 10 1/2 wk Aussie/Lab mix biting..HELP PLZ

I have a new pup, Koda, who is biting and nipping. I know this is part of the Aussie "herding" trait. We can't get him to stop biting us. We have used every technique we know of. Positive reinforsement and I hate to say negative too. We squirted the back of his neck like my trainer told me to. NOTHING is helping. I know he is teething, for which he has good bones to knaw on. We can't even pet his head cuz he wants to nip at you. Does anyone have any advice. I am trying to be patient but I have a limit and my teens are almost at the breaking point.

Thx

His behaviour is perfectly normal for a young puppy. Teaching a pup what is and is not acceptable behaviour in the household is part of training. He is playing with you as he would with the puppies from his litter. It is the way that puppies play.

It sounds as though he is quite excitable and easily over stimulated. My Jack Russell was similar. I could barely touch him without him trying to chew me - no aggression, just mouthing but without good bite inhibition so it hurt.

The only think I did was withdraw physical attention from him as much as possible. I gave him lots of positive attention when he was good, lots of eye contact, talking to him, playing fetch but very little touch. I would sit on the floor to stroke him when he was calm and quiet but any sign of nipping I would withdraw my attention and move away from him.

He would chase us as we walked across the living room, trying to grab my trousers or the hem of my skirt and so I made every move as boring as possible. I would stand still and look away from him then would move as soon as he released me. He would do the same with my children but they learnt to be calm as they moved around the house and he learnt to stop chasing.

here is a link to an article about bite inhibition, very helpful!

Teaching Bite Inhibition | Dog Star Daily

Also I have an aussie cross pup as well, he's about 18 weeks now. still teething but not nipping as much anymore. I found an article of a conversation between a trainer and a very well informed owner of an aussie cross pup as well and you might find you get a lot of really good tips in there...

Good luck!!
have you got pictures you can post? ;o)
