Default Pawing all the water out of water bowl

So strange one, not something I would consider an absolute pain in the bum, but we have noticed Dutchie will have a drink of water then paw all the remaining water out of his bowl.

Its not a complete disaster for the home as such, his feeding and water area are in the wet area of the house (where everyone moves from swimming pool to spa and showers etc) so its all very easy cleaned, but I am more concerned about him doing this when we are not around for a while, wasting his water and leaving nothing available for when he is next thirsty.

Any ideas of how to provide an unspillable water source in the house?

Porter does that. We got him a 5 gallon bucket. It's too tall for him to comfortable reach in and dig the water out, so he quit. There is water dishes where the dog can't dig the water out, but we never bought one so I don't know if they work. Also, if your dog paws all of the water out, wait a while before filling it back up. Going a few hours without water might make him not do that anymore.

The above is all I heard in that entire message. I want one of each too please.

But being serious, would a dog water fountain work better? I know they also sell the food bowls that are donut or akward shaped to slow down fast eaters. Maybe it'd stop being so fun and he'd leave it alone?

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

Thanks for the links, water fountain i suppose we could give that a go.......it could make things worse too though as I imagine it could attract even more attention......still might think about that though, it could be good for the cats too.

My sister in law's collie does this all the time. If he sees water he just has to poke it. They find he is better if the water bowl is somewhere shady so there are no reflections on the water.

lol. We had one of the outside spas, then we got Kato, prior to Kato living with us we only had a shower and it was hard to bath him that way, particuarly as he started getting bigger, it was hard to fit him and a person in the shower. we were remodeling the bathroom anyway, so rather than just putting in a tub it was only a couple of hundred dollars more to put in a spa, so thats how that one happened....lol.

Obi paws his water silently whenever I'm not seeing him. It's hard to catch him on the act. He learned how to paw silently. :/

Elevate the bowls (depending on the dog's size). My Tazzy was great for this. Lifted the bowls (past her knee) and viola - she's never done it since.
