Potty training- Help required...
I have a male Labrador puppy. He is just under 4 months old. I started taking him for walks 3 days ago. While he enjoys the walks, he refuses to pee or poop. The moment he returns home, he pees in his usual place. How do I train him to pee on the streets and not at home. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks...

Welcome to the Forum!
This will not be as detailed as I would like as I am expecting an important phone call. Do you have newspapers or what? down in the house where he is going now? If so--One thing you can try---Put some of the soiled/peed on paper or whatever you are using outside before you take him for a walk. Direct him to the area you put the soiled paper on and keep doing it for a while and maybe he will get the idea. If he finally goes outside (especially in the area you put the paper in) praise him like crazy like he did the best thing in the world--give him a treat then. If you hold off from giving him treats at any other time until he starts pottying outside---Gives him more incentive to do what you want so he can get that treat!
Your puppy is still pretty young yet and may not be able to hold it for too long. Try to take him out frequently and especially before he already pottys in the house.
I hope you are cleaning the area in the house where he goes really well as dogs have a very good nose and will want to continue to go where they can smell the urine. Don't use any cleaning agent that has ammonia in it as ammonia is what is in urine and smells like pee to the pup.
Hope this helps. Let us know how he is doing.
Just looked at your album. Danny is very cute and appealing. I especially like the 1st pic in the 2nd row.

Well said Corkymax, the only thing I might add is If your puppy still didnt do his potty outside, once back inside keep a leash on and tied to you so you know where hes at and doing at all times and you will be aware of when hes about to go, and you can wisk him up and outside.

Have been trying this for 4 days now. No luck...
The little guy just refuses to pee or poop on the street. He has to come home and go to his regular place... Gee... Looks like I'll have a dog who only pees and poops in the house...

hello
does your dog poop or peep on training pads, if so with my two puppies we slowly moved the puppy pad to the back door and eventually outside, they got the just that the pad was for that then it ended up ouside where they're happy doing the loo, you just have to keep repeating the process and they soon pick it up, once they've got it they have got it lol x

When you say he won't go on the street do you mean an actual street like you drive or walk on? If you are then that's most likely the issue...Most dogs will not go potty on any type of surface other then grass or at the very least dirt when they're outside especially if there's scents of a lot of different people or other animals.

Yeah. I am talking about the actual street. All the dogs in our lane poop & pee on that street although there is a patch of dirt along one corner which is where I have seen most of the dogs go. I've tried soaking newspapers in his pee and laying them along that corner of dirt but no joy...

Well you may have a problem then for 2 reasons..First off a large majority of dogs won't go to the bathroom on concrete..It's not natural for them..Secondly many dogs won't go to the bathroom if they pick up the scent of another dog or person. What your dog is doing is completely natural and you may need to find him a new place to go..Somewhere where there's grass or at the very least dirt.
