Default Our shepherd needs help!!!

Hi,
We have an 18 month old male German Shepherd who is great!! We wanted to have some company for him in case we are out of the house and got a 5 month old female German Shepherd. She is the greatest girl. She passed obedience training and she is very loyal. Both dogs are doing great together.
However, the female is very shy. She was from the beginning and I thought it would go away after she gets used to us. It did not! If we have people visiting us, she hides under the bed or in the tub. She does not like anyone else and she is very protective. Lately, it seems that she gets more and more aggressive towards people who come to our house. She barks when someone walks by the house. I am very worried that she gets overprotective and will bite someone. She is spayed and really the greatest girl (as long as there is nobody she does not like). We bring our dogs to PetSmart and to the beach.... She is fine as long as nobody talks to her or tries to pet her.
What can we do to get her (10 month) more socialized, less aggressive and protective. We NEED your help!! Thank you.

Agnes

Default protective sheppard

i was glad to read your post as i too have a female sheppard, spayed that is just on a year old and she possesses the exact same behavior as yours. she barks at anyone that she does not know even small children. it is a little disturbing as it does frighten a lot of people. I have to watch her at all times until she finally gets to know people. I have discovered a bit of a trick for people that come into my home and such. If i put her outside first and then let the person in my house and let her in after they are already in she does not bark at them. in fact she will wag her tail and give kisses. I believe that once she sees that the stranger is in her home with us then she knows that person is ok. I hope this helps you a little.
