Default Spoilt Dog?

My mum says that I pay far to much attention to the dog, and she says that I spoil her.

But I dont see how paying the dog loads of atention can do this? I love my dog dearly she is my best friend when I feel low.

Can too much attention cause a dog to be spoilt?

I do admit that If I am talking to someone and not paying her attention she tends to look at me all sad and sort of whimpers.

Have I made the dog behave this way? If so how can i go about changing it, without having to resulting to ignoring my dog.

If it comes to the point where the dog is constantly demanding attention then perhaps you could say that it is spoilt. Whether this a problem of any kind that needs to be addressed is another matter and one that i between you and your dog. If you are still the one in charge then there is little harm done.

My wife observes that our dog plagues me as she likes to be near me all the time and when I am sitting, she lies at my feet. Actually she usually lies on them. If I am reading or watching television I would casually stroke her. If I told her to go to bed she would go, but why would I?

Yeah I know what you mean my dog is usually sat on my feet or led on me lol.

And she isnt light!

Its not me really that wants to pay less attention to the dog, I dont know if its because the dog never pays any attention or interest in my mum because shes always wanting me.

Is there any activites that the three of us could do to try & create a relationship between them to?

I know it may sound stupid but I think my mum feels left out.

It depends...if you are constantly showing attention, she could become very dependent. Dogs need to learn a little bit of independence, else they may destroy your house whilst you're away.

You do have a point her but only so far. My dog gets a lot of attention but she would not destroy anything when I am out. I have spent a lot of time training her and she would not do anything that would upset me.

She would get 'the look' and that would make her very sad.

Interesting point.

Our dog is my dog, if that makes sense. She is my dog first and then a family dog. That's just the way it is. Everyone accepts that. I picked her, looked after her, trained her, so it is expected. However, she adores my youngest kid. he is only 5 and she will do anything he asks. I'm not jealous because I can still pull rank but this really irritates his older brother and mother. The dog mostly ignores them.

This may sound stupid but I think dogs know the people who like them best.

I think she's probably a little bit spoiled. I know my dogs are. LOL But I can live with that. As long as they listen to me & behave themselves, I don't really care if they're spoiled.

Your dog is spoiled! There is nothing wrong with that in my eyes, though. All of my dogs are. Your dog just loves you.
