Hello All -

We have had a springer spaniel for exaclty one year and she is great. Except for being excited when getting to play outside or when we get home, she is usually very calm and sleeps most of the time (upside down usually).

Recently, when going outside, she has found and been playing with a rock about the size of an adult's fist. When going outside, she runs to it and barks at it as well as carries it around. Earlier tonight, my wife decided to let her carry it inside to the room we watch TV in.

While sitting beside her, my wife tried to pick up the rock and for the first time ever, we heard her growl and somewhat snap. As she is so calm and happy all the time, this was very abnormal. She will leave the rock and go walk around, but is extremely protective of it when it's in her sight - kindof like her puppy (even though she's never had a litter and is fixed)

Is this behavior a cause to be concerned? - Please leave any comments - Thanks!

My dog has been acting off for a few weeks. Not her usual playful happy self I mean. Well today she has become 10 times worse all of a sudden. She will not walk around, she lays on the floor and shakes. She hasn't eaten anything (still drinking) and she won't let me touch her rear end. I am nervous that she may have an anal gland infection but she hasn't been scooting and there is no discharge. I expressed the glands last week and what came out was white, milky and chunky. I don't know what to do. All the vets are closed and I have to wait til monday to make an appointment. I don't know if I should treat this as an emergency and bring her to an ER or wait til monday because she is still drinking and pooing and peeing. HELP ME!!!!

After many long and involved discussions with Lara's breeder (Kim), it has finally been decided. I will be adopting a show quality male Jack Russell (shorty). His name is Superflys Sir Lancelot. I'll call him Lance. He is Lara's brother, two litters after the one she came from - same parents.

Kim will pay for all the genetic testing. I'll raise him and he will be my little boy. When he is of age, Kim will use him for a stud. Apparently, I will get a "stud fee" - whatever that is...Kim will get first pick of the puppies.

He's just turned four weeks old so, I won't be bringing him home for six to eight weeks yet. He needs lots more time with his biological mom. I'm so excited!!! He is an incredibly cute little guy! I'll post a picture of him in my album since I can't for the life of me, figure how to post one in the threads.

Kim and I became very good friends after I got Lara from her and we've kept in touch frequently. Is this the way these arrangements normally work or am I getting a special arrangement because I already have one of her dogs?

I have a two year old Ori Pei (Shar Pei and Pug Mix) and he always wants to play and get into things but last night in the middle of the night he woke me up crying out and moaning. He also always sleeps at my side and he moved to the end of the bed. Then this morning he has been very clingy and won't really do much and again just wants to sit there and stare at me instead of playing. I am not sure what to do and since it is a weekend my vets office is closed and I would have to take him to the emergency vet in town to have him looked at. I am just at a loss for what to do. I would appreciate any help.
Thank you,

We picked up a beautiful stray male papillon, all white with black head. We tried every way we could, but no owner came forth. We've had him for several months. He is not aggressively a biter, but if my husband doesn't approach him just right, he has bitten him several times. The last time took two rounds of antibiotics and he had to have his finger lanced twice at the doctor's. We feared that my husband might develop osteomyelitis. Luckily, it healed okay after a long time. I am afraid of the dog and will not approach him. We had him neutered and that didn't help. Our vet says my husband is in denial that Bandit is not a good addition to our household. We have adopted 7 other dogs that needed a home and have fostered many many more who eventually found a home through Good Dog Rescue. We live in a suburb of Memphis (Germantown), TN.

Sorry this is so long, but thought history should be included. My husband has agreed to try to find any solution for this problem short of putting him down. I am willing to do that, and the vet agrees this would be appropriate, but my husband refuses.

HELP ????

Me and mum have two labrador/staffie crosses. We love them do much.

Rather than feed them kibble (which dogs hate) we feed them raw meat plus rice and vegtables. We also give them our scraps and a couple of dog multivitamins a day. Plus we give them milk/water drinks in the evening.

Is there anything else wer should be doing for our dogs?

We don't give them kibble because of the quality of meat and the preservitives in it. Also with a couple of dogs we babysat the dogs would eat the meat and even the rice, but would leave the kibble. Which tells me they don't like it.

cheers.
