Smile I need help for my pom!! or me!!

Hi Everyone!! I"m new to this forum, and sure hope someone out there can help me out....... I have a 3 year old pomerainian named Darby,,,,, well about a week or so ago he barely eats his dog food.... he's always been picky but now it's out of control!!! He's been eating people food ( what a mistake) and loves it,,,,, I think enough where he couldn't be bothered with his dog food. I put down his Ceasar food,Pedigree pouch, and Pedigree dry. I was telling the vet yesterday, she told me he'd eat when he got hungry enough! he ate some last night ( mixed with a little hamburg) but just not enough,,,, he's' happy and he's peppy he's drinking plenty of water, however, I'm afraid he's not going to continue to eat his dog food! Tuesday night, I finally made him a scrambled egg because he ate nothing at all that day,,,,, I really hope someone can help me He is also a spoiled brat!!!! and very, very stubborn!!! Thank you so much, Janice

You will have to retrain him to eat dog food. Feed him twice a day, morning and suppertime. Put the food down for no more than 10 min. then pick it up and no food until next feeding. NO PEOPLE FOOD!! You can give treats during the day, for good behavior, but no cheating. Your dog may go as long as a week of not eating much, but when he is hungry enough, he will eat, I promise.

Default Also remember

that a dog will not starve itself just for the sake of proving a point, he just probably knows from past experience that you will be the one to give in and let him win. Have you tried sitting dogs food up at the table and pretend to eat it and then give it to him??? Wont help too much with the training of not eating people food, but if you are getting really concerned about the lack of what is being eaten it may be a way to trick him into eating his own food.

Wink thank you, nattie and poohbear

Thank you so much for your advice....... I can't believe he could go a week without food!! I don't know if i could handle that without giving me people food..... I'm also going to try putting it up on the table, I have made believe eating his food only on the floor, I"ve even made believe I was going to give it to the other dogs that live down the street!! He's so smart he knew of course that I didn't do anything with his food..... Thank you again, Janice

When we rescued Taz he had never seen dog food, and as a result he has a very dodgy tum, he can only eat a few types of food. We went with the put down for 10 mins then pick up we also used dog gravy, it took a while but it does work you just have to be hard, don't give in to begging, if the dog knows you will give in eventually, they will always win , just treat it like a child throwing a temper tantrum, hard i know but it is worth it.
Good luck
