Question Thyroid problem/Pomeranian

I've been told that my beautiful little, almost 12-yr old, Pomeranian may have a thyroid condition. He seems to exhibit most of the symptoms, loss of hair, sleeps a lot, on and off constipation, rat-tail and possibly partial paralysis in his face because his tongue sticks out a lot more than it used to. He also has a dull look to his normally bright eyes.

The question I have to answer is how much I can afford to spend to get him back to normal, where he can enjoy his remaining life. I don't have a clue how much treatments for this condition costs and haven't approached my local vet yet. What can I expect in terms of treatment and how long will it take to get results? I will appreciate any guidance from people who have been there. Thank you.
