Hello form Iowa
Hey,
I am new here. Just wanted to say hi. I am the proud mother of an 8 year old black lab/Red-bone coon hound named Duncan and a one year old Goldendoodle named Patrick (his birthday is July 4th so I named him Patrick Henry). I also have a 14 year old cat named Zoe. I am happy to be here and hope to meet many of you.
I do have a question. I have been feeding my dogs IAMS for large breeds but I have to buy a 40 pound bag just about every other week and this is getting very expensive. Duncan weighs about 108lbs and Patrick has just weighed in at 100.4lbs so they both eat alot. Is there any dog food that is cheaper and yet still a good quality dog food?
Thanks

unfortunately, everyone who has responded is right. the best person/people to ask would be your vet and/or the breeder. as for cost, remember the old saying "there's no such thing as a free dog". pets, like children can be costly. when i was younger my family had at the very least 3 white german sheps at a time. we got all of our feed from a local family owned business specializing in pet supplies. 50lb bags of dog feed were relatively cheap coming from them because they were a small family store. since i now live too far away to go back to this place on a regular basis i get my pet foods from whole sale clubs such as BJ's, sams club, and costco. i made the mistake of buying feeds from retail pet store chains and spent double what i was spending at BJs. in delaware (no sales tax), a 30lb bag of feed can go from 10-20 dollars depending on brand. if you have a whole sale club around you, i'd suggest checking one out. if at all possible, try to find a small business too. businesses that arent involved in a chain tend to be a bit more honest and concerned with you and your pets needs rather than people who work to meet the goals of a corporate chain. good luck to you.

mgm, while i do understand what you say and in most instances i can agree with you, family owned business's that have only 1 store in the entire country arent as cut throat as retail chains that have large quotas to meet. now in most cases, there are small businesses out there that just want your money. but the place i was going to was owned by an elderly couple who's family had been a very vital part of the community for quite some time. i guess i just happened to get lucky. -shrugs-

i must be lucky then living in the uk as the store i go to has a resident vet available and a nutritionist, i thought this would be the same in the US.
but i am sure that madz will find the help she needs and make the right choice, for her dogs, as any loving owner would
