Hi we are new here. My dog's names are Dammet (13.5), Spot (11.5) and Charlie Brown (11.5) all purebred Labrador Retrievers. Dammet is Charlie and Spot's father.

I have just begun cooking for my group after learning that Natural Balance had a voluntary recall this week. I thought I was feeding the best food that money could buy, but apparently all dog foods are alike and I no longer want to worry about inadvertently poisoning them.

So I came here to find out if any one else cooks for thier dog, and if so, could maybe give me some advice. I started Thursday with boneless, skinless chicken breasts and thighs, smashed potatoes and green beans and also added brown rice today. I need to know what to supplement with and how much to feed them per day. I have fed them 2 cups of this mixture in the morning and 3 cups at night. They all weigh over 80 pounds each.

We also have some health problems. Dammet is partially blind, has cancer of the blood vessels and an endocrine and immunological disorder for half of his life. Since he has cancer I need to find a good cancer fighting diet for him. Spot had surgery last week to open up an airway that was a full laryngeal paralysis. Charlie has an enlarged heart and we have him on Lasix to reduce the fluid buildup. His heart pushes on his trachea making it hard for him to breath sometimes. So I need to find a diet for canine heart disease also.

I recently starting doing the home cooking for my Lab Collie Lucky and it seems to be going well. I'm doing a similar mix but with crushed eggshells for additional protein. Lucky has happily fought cancer twice and won but your situation seems pretty specific.
I'm sure other readers will be more helpul than I but good luck with it.
