Default Importance of diet in incontinence

Hi, I have a 12 year old German Shepherd. I used to foster dogs but then decided to have a dog of my own. She was two when I first got her. Although she was on a very sloppy tinned food when I first had her I changed her diet to raw meat and mixer supplemented by some veg table scraps. About a year ago I changed her diet to Nature Diet (a prepacked brand), a good quality diet but one that gave her an upset tummy. I put her back onto the raw meat and mixer again and she was fine immediately. Some months later when I was particularly busy and couldn't get to the pet shop, I bought some canned dog food from the local store which she really seemed to enjoy, so I bought her some more. Then she started to get urinary incontinence while lying down. I presumed it was her age but changed her diet back to raw meat and it stopped. Since then if I stray from the raw meat diet the urinary incontinance comes back, including last night when I gave her some human grade cooked chicken with rice. I've joined this forum to post this information as I looked for help on the web when it first happened and there was a lot about surgery and drugs. Obviously there are lots of causes for every different problem and this won't work for every dog but this is very easy to do and it's worth a try. Also because of a life mostly raw meat/tripe etc her teeth are in very good condition for her age.
