Hi! Obviously, I am new to these forums or I wouldn't be posting here
My name is Beth and I have a new puppy. Well, actually I have had her for two weeks (today). She is 10 weeks old and for a puppy, she is very well behaved... in most things (lol).
Mayze is a Chocolate Lab/Husky mix. Both her parents are purebred, and their coupling was not planned. The family I got her from said that they had surgery scheduled for their female (the Husky) to be fixed when their male "got to her" the day before. She's an Oops puppy, but I think she is wonderful. I am currently trying to figure out what behaviors are associated with the different breeds. I have owned labs before and one of my best friends used to breed them, so I am very familiar with the "Labbishness" in her. I know almost nothing about Huskies though.
Another thing about Mayze. She was chosen because I needed a Psychiatric Service Dog. Unlike other service dogs which you usually find already trained, it is highly encouraged that the person using the service dog train them themselves (mostly because she will be looking for my cues for when a problem arises, but training myself, doesn't mean I do it alone - there will be a professional guiding me). Honestly though, she's only 10 weeks old. I am more interested in her learning sit, stay, heal, and all those basics first... not to mention the potty training. At least I know how to do the basics.
Anyway, I hope to be able to stick around more and learn from you all. This seems like a nice community.
