Default Hello!

Hi! Obviously, I am new to these forums or I wouldn't be posting here

My name is Beth and I have a new puppy. Well, actually I have had her for two weeks (today). She is 10 weeks old and for a puppy, she is very well behaved... in most things (lol).

Mayze is a Chocolate Lab/Husky mix. Both her parents are purebred, and their coupling was not planned. The family I got her from said that they had surgery scheduled for their female (the Husky) to be fixed when their male "got to her" the day before. She's an Oops puppy, but I think she is wonderful. I am currently trying to figure out what behaviors are associated with the different breeds. I have owned labs before and one of my best friends used to breed them, so I am very familiar with the "Labbishness" in her. I know almost nothing about Huskies though.

Another thing about Mayze. She was chosen because I needed a Psychiatric Service Dog. Unlike other service dogs which you usually find already trained, it is highly encouraged that the person using the service dog train them themselves (mostly because she will be looking for my cues for when a problem arises, but training myself, doesn't mean I do it alone - there will be a professional guiding me). Honestly though, she's only 10 weeks old. I am more interested in her learning sit, stay, heal, and all those basics first... not to mention the potty training. At least I know how to do the basics.

Anyway, I hope to be able to stick around more and learn from you all. This seems like a nice community.

Beth and Mayze

Default I have a Psychiatric Service Dog--we're new to this site too!

I got my psychiatric service dog a year and exactly 3 months ago. He has changed my life. I got him through an organization called CIrcle Tail (Circle Tail) click on this link to see their website. How they work is the dog has basic obedience as well as advanced when you start working with it. It trains with you for a minimum of 60-90 hours before you take it home (ao it picks up on your cues). Continuing training is free, the dog is also free. I have DID (multiple personality disorder) as well as others. My dog can now alert to switches in personality (for me and others), get my meds, and help bring me back to "myself". I am now on my own, in my first apartment, and out of the hospital for the first time in ten years. Flash and Circle Tail saved my life! Check out CT's website. Travel (they are located near Cincinnatti, Ohio) can be arranged--heck--maybe I can help with that. (I live an hour and a half from CT.)
