how to gain new dogs trust?
ok brief history i have been a dog owner and lover my whole life, im 32 and have had 10 dogs threw out my life. my last dog i had since he was 6 weeks old he was a dalmatian that lived a good life. i had to put him down about a month ago he had a blood clot and a stroke the vet said he wouldnt make it thru the night... he was my best friend in the whole world i will miss him more then life its self... anyway we adopted a 2y/o dog she is a shep/boxer/pit mix thats really scared and shy. the shelter just said that she was a stray that they had found so they couldnt tell us much about her other then how sweet she is... we have had her for 2 days all she does is lay on the floor next to the bed and pants. all tho she was just spayed 3 days ago maybe this could have something to do with it??? also she doesnt know any commands or out or anything but she has not messed in the hose so far.. i dont know i think she may have been a watch dog that didnt have much interaction with people that just got loose... also she really doesnt like treats so she all i can do is reward her by saying good girl and giving her a pat on the head... any tips info or help would be greatly appreciated...

Ok I am no expert, though a past beginner obedience trainer.. I just think if she was spay only three days ago I wouldn't be working her on training yet.
Panting is sign that she is hot , I might be checking her temperature and consulting with a Veterinarian, She might have infection from spay Maybe that she was an outside Dog and is finding house temperatures a bit more for her then she is used to.
I Also have a picky treat eating dog. She is not really eager for treat rewards but here is a training technique. take her complete food for the day assuming it is dry dog food and place in a bowl where you can access it. Put some in your pocket and through out the day you reward her, it's just her dinner but one bit at a time. Anything at all that you feel is worth rewarding. She probably is confused and scared right now. My puff took a few days to wag her tail once in my home, though she was grateful for me to have adopted her from the cold wet weather.
I am still looking for tiny treats for my Puff that she is eager to eat but funny as it is she doesn't care anymore, the reward is exactly what she gets for dinner but only one. And Praise.
Give her Time to adjust. and Do check her temperature to be on the safe side that she doesn't have a fever.
Sorry to hear about your Dalmatian. I as well lost an old friend in December 06 and then Fate brought Puff into my Life when I so needed someone new to love.
would sure be interested in hearing how she is doing.
Good luck to you all
~Puff 'n I~
