Confessions of a Dog Freak
Hello Everyone
I'm Mel and so say I love dogs would be like saying "Jesus is kinda nice!' I got my first dog, a dalmation named Fortune when I was five. The first time I saw him I started crying because I thought he was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. There is something so joyful in the middle of a dog's face along with there bing eyes. Forty years later I still see a dog and teary- The emotions are almost indescribable but to put it plain it's the unconditional love they exude. What's incredible is they love me as much as I love them. I walk down the street and strange dogs approaches or jump on me and their owner's are aghast. When they see me as excited as their dog is conversation turns to mutual interest and more than likely I'm hugging the owner as well. I own, HomeGrown Creations, an art collective in DC opened two years ago. Every day I watched dogs pass my shop and long for them to come in.
My dead mother whispered in my ear (yeah she did) suggesting I make the food and treats we made back home for my childhood dog, Bernard Edward Taylor III Esq (Yeah I named him but the family called him Bernie.) I argued with a ghost because I sell art not dog supplies but even in dead she gets her way. I made a few dozen treats and put advertisment out front. It caught on so quickly I was shot. In less than two weeks I had twenty five customers and I started making the food as well. Now I see dogs all the time and often they lead their owners in. Fast forward two years later and I'm closing in the art shop and opening DC's first manufacturing facility for dog nutrition.
Who woulda thunk it? My love for dogs and their owner is about to become my livelihood and I can honestly say that doing as I was told and following my passion will start a new an interesting chapter of my life. YEA!!
