new member intro, bit long Just wanted to say "hi" and introduce myself. We live in Upstate NY. Family consists of me, DH (Tom), 2 9 year old Springers (Buckshot and Duchess) and 4 cats (Liz, Jake, Dara and Rusty).
Both dogs were adopted as adults. Buckshot from a Springer rescue group about 5 years ago, Duchess from a friend this past summer. They are both typical Springers - happy friendly energetic puppies! Both liver & white field-breds. Love to ride in the car. They definately have their own personalities though.
Buckshot has always been the perfect gentleman, very well behaved, responds to commands. Loves to be outside running around in all weathers digging holes in the wooded area of the yard (mostly), loves everybody. Cat chasing never crossed his mind. Bit of a picky eater. Doesn't like thunderstorms - he doesn't freak out, but he does start looking for a lap at the first rumble! Doesn't like being brushed, but will put up with it.
Duchess is a character. Snores like a freight train, snorts like a little pig when shes sniffing for something, also loves everybody. Loves to be brushed. However, she has never seen a trash can unworthy of being raided. Cat boxes are snack opportunities in her mind. She will obey commands as long as there is a dog biscuit involved. Outside is ok for short periods, but she prefers to shadow me in a nice warm house. Loves to play with the kitties! Kitchen counters - don't ask! Will eat anything. Needless to say, the kitchen trash is now in a cabinet under the sink, the bathroom doors have been fixed so that the cats can get in but she can't and we no longer leave ANYTHING on the counters. We are working on the command deal. I'm not looking for obedience trials, just a few basics.
As for me, I'm a retired computer tech, and a quilter. I also collect, restore and use antique sewing machines. DH is designer of very large corporate data/voice -over-ip networks and a NASCAR fan. We are both considered harmless and crazy, but lovable by friends and family, especially when rescueing their computers.
