Unhappy hi all, but i need help and advice

firstly hi everyone , im carron nd a newie, i recently rescued a great dane cross mastiff, he's about 3 yrs old neutered male , he seemed to settle in straight away went straight to his new bed rolled over it , he's very loving and great with me , but I knew taking a rescue dog on would need alot of patiance and understanding , which I know I able to do , I suffer with depression and have for years , I hardly went out doors , but i decided a dog would help me start to heal and come out of my self and it has , I sometimes thinks he understands me , when im a little down he gets up pushes his head in my chest and snuggles in , were out the house 4 times a day and its like i found a new lease of life, but he is very aggressive towards dogs , cats and what seems like a fear of lads and some men , in the last two days he snapped 3 times on one occasion it was my 13 nethew , adonis (my dog ) gives no warning he just launches at ppl i bought a muzzle for him to ware in the house as my step children are here till tomorrow and luckily for my step son he had the muzzle on when 3 hrs ago when my step son walk passed min he snapped again with no warning no growl ,, i dont want to loose adonis but i couldnt live with it if he hurt someone or a child , hes a very very large and powerful dog . PLEASE does anyone have some advice i really dont want to loose my new best friend, Im his only hope for a second chance , i went back to the rescue i know if they see this behavior they will have no choice but to put him to spleep

please can anyone one help me with this i dont no what else to do

carron x

There is a quote that says "As a Lion is to a Cat, so the Masiff is to a Dog"... The Mastiff is one of the most dominating breeds. They are powerful and very well aware of their strength. They were bred to be fearless. Even training the Mastiff from a puppy age is demanding work. They have to be properly socialized from day one. Unfortunately it does not seem like your dog is going to do well around others. I am not convinced that the shelter will put him down if you tell them this. They are usually very understanding to this type of situation. A Mastiff if not properly socialized (as most rescues are not) could actually show hostility towards anybody at any given time. So it may not be safe for you as well. If you raise your voice or scold him, that could be enough to be considered a challenge. I wish you the best of luck in making a decision... I know it's hard.
