I would like to know is there anything I need to do to prepare a home for my new puppies coming in 20 days or so?

so you bred this dog without knowing anything about whelping puppies?

has your dog been to the vets? had X-rays? scheduled an ultra sound?

why don't you have a mentor? were both dogs tested for STD's & brucellosis? if not you could be having dead puppies. I guess genetic health screenings are out of the question.

do you have a whelping box? scales? formula & bottles ( just in case ) a method of identfying each pup in case they are all the same color?

will you know if she gets into trouble & needs a c - section? depending on the breed or if the male was larger it is almost a certainty.

here is a link to excellent information on all of it. then please get your dog spayed. puppies, yes PB's too, are being killed by the thousands daily in shelters.

Canine Reproduction Video and Book on Breeding and Whelping dogs by Debbie Jensen for dog breeders and Whelping Supplies needed to deliver puppies.

as for your actual house - the puppies should not have run of the house. they should be in an X-pen or baby gated into the kitchen or what ever room
& just baby proof the room. electric cords, small things they could chew etc

and for the love of God get this dog spayed asap

Congratulations on the litter and congratulations on reaching out for advice. That to me says you are willing to do what is necessary for your new pups. Get a Mr. Turtle swimming pool and place a couple of old sheets in there. Place the pool out at least a week before your dog is due. She will almost certainly have the pups in the pool if it's available. I put mine in the house because new pups need the heat and warmth. Other than that your mommy dog should take care of the rest. It's always a possibility that you will have still-borns, so be sure to have the vets number ready and waiting. About a week after they are born, they go to the vet for check up's and to have their dew claws removed. Good Luck... and be sure to get them the professional help that they need when that time comes.
