Hey!
I'm 20 and from Canada! I have two dogs, a 4 (going on 5) year old Lab + BC male named Coal (AKA: Coaly Moley), and a 11 month old GSD + Boxer male named Linkin (AKA: Stinkin :P).
Dogs have always been a big part of my life, and I really enjoying having intelligent discussions about them, as well as learning everything I can! So I hope I can gain these two things from this forum!
I just recently went to a 6 week program where I learned all different types of training, and got two certificates; one for Obedience and Kennel Management and one for the Master Trainer program which consisted of things like Tracking, Personal Protection, Drug Detection, Service dogs etc. It was a lot of fun! I have yet to really put any of this knowledge to use though, but I hope to set up some obedience classes soon!
My lab + Coal is my second agility dog, but the first one I've trialed with. He's only been to a few trials due to geographical circumstances (not too many trials are held out in the boonies here), and unfortunately he may have to retire early because he's been having trouble with his hips (haven't gotten him into the vets yet but I plan on calling them this weekend). He's also a little overweight, so maybe I'll start up a thread and see if anyone has any dieting tips for me, so far what I've been doing hasn't been helping much (I have a feeling his hip soreness is caused by his extra weight). Coal's been through the worst parts of my life and has been my best friend through it all, he's a real sweetheart. I don't know what I would have done without him these past 4 + years. He'll be 5 in Feb, and it feels like just yesterday he was an evil little puppy :P
Linkin has been one trouble after another lol. I got him a few months ago, from a couple with little kids (under 7 years old) who just couldn't handle him. He's got more energy than even *I* can handle at times, and can be very distructive if bored (he's extremely smart). He spent most of his life with them tied up outside, so when I got him you can imagine what a handfull he was! Had NO manners whatsoever and couldn't sit still for two seconds to save his life! He was the dog I took with me to school, and I think that's helped a LOT! He's still a little terror, but he's deffinatly come a long way when it comes to obedience and manners! He's a real goofball, and LOVES to snuggle. I've taught him a little bit of Agility and plan on getting into it more with him next summer. He excelled at tracking at school, and it would be nice to keep him up on it but unfortantly have yet to find anyone willing to querry for me... for some reason most people dont' jump at the thought of hiding in the snow when it's -26 C here!
Sorry this is so long... I love talking about dogs, especially braging about my own!
