Default Some Help With Diabetic Dogs Please

Hi all,

Im Carol all the way from Sunny Scotland, LOL...I am new to this page and joined because of my dog Buttons, she is 11 years old and we have just been told that she has diabetics, she also has cateraccs, we feel our World has collapsed, she is such a good wee dog, and gives us so much love and pleasure as all our dogs do. My husband and I are now worrying about her diet and if we are feeding her correclty. She had her first injection yesterday Friday 15December, today Sunday 16th December, she did not eat her food and we gave her a packet of crisps, which she ate, she has also had a slice of toast and low fat butter, which she enjoyed. Can anyone eLse who has a diabetic dog help us please? Do we have to keep her on the same food for life now, and can she get crisps at all? (crisps can also be known as potatoe chips) Can I feed her steak, or chicken?

Thank You all

Hi - My parents have a Sheba Inu that's 9 and he's had diabetes for about a year now. After trying so many different dog foods, the only one that seems to stay down with him is something the vet recommended called "medi cal fiber formula k9". I think the vets there produce it. However, they only make it with rice and if that rice is not taken out, it will cause Jack to throw it all up. So my parents sped literally over 2 hours a day preparing his meals! I'm on this board hoping someone has similar experience and maybe some advice on some alternative diabetic dog food without rice.

Good luck to you - hoping someone comes around with something to say that will help us..
