Question Hi there!

I'm new here, and really glad I came across this forum. I have a specific problem that I really need help with. I have a one year old poodle, and he runs off, and won't come back to me when he is called. I have three other dogs (a lab, a chihuahua, and a mixed breed), and he is the only one that behaves this way. I beg, plead, chase, bribe, and scold. He thinks it's all a game. He is put in a crate or in my bedroom when we leave the house, and I think this is his attempt at freedom since he usually tries to sneak out the door while we are on our way to work/school. I really need help. I'm terrified that he will be run over or stolen.

He seemed a lot of energy and wants to play more hours of the day. My dog Wishbone always act this way but he behaves so much. Sorry for being not so helpful but I think your needs to attend an obedience training, you can also try some dvd or books for tips. Let hear from others.

Obedience training would be great, but I live in a VERY rural area. I'd have to drive at least a couple of hours to get to a class. I'll look into some books or dvd's. I've always trained my other dogs myself, and this is the first time I've encountered this problem. Thanks for your help!!

Default Dogs who run..

Hello I have this same problem with one of my pomeranians. She will come to me in the house and from inside our fenced in yard, but if she gets out of the house she will not come she takes off and doesn't stop. I can't tell you all the times the little sh*t has snuck out and tore off. I was so worried that she would get ran over I had to put in an electric fence in the front yard so that she wouldn't escape. It has seemed to work so far, but I hate the fact the she has to get a shock, I just don't advocate the kind of thing, but it had to be done. Anyway, you may want to try that if the training thing just doesnt work. I couldn't seem to train her no matter how hard I tried. Let me know if you find any other training tips in your research!
Thanks and good luck!
