Default Hey Everyone

Whats up everybody, I am a first time dog owner of an adorable Akita puppy named Kaylani. She is 6 weeks and 3 days old, and I've been searching the net for info and tips and I always seem to get lead back to this forum, so i decided to sign up. Everyone seems so nice and helpful. I know I will need some tips from you experienced dog owners, and if there is anyone who is knowledgable with Akitas, let me know because i would love to ask you some questions.

I'm sure Rees will be along to answer any specific akita questions but I will start with just a couple things.

akita's are not a good choice for beginners. they need an experienced, firm owner & a lot of exercise. several levels of obedience training with a reputable trainer will be essential

the fact that you got your puppy so young screams byb. in most states it is the law that they be at least 8 weeks before leaving the mother.

a reputable breeder would have kept them until at least 10 wks. usually 12. you will find your puppy will probably be mouthy & bitey. they need that extra time to learn manners & socialization from mom & the siblings.

I've seen and been with an Akita for couple of hours only and I must say Suebgone has good introduction about them. The owner usually wake early in the morning to give him enough exercise and bring him to obedience class on weekend.
