Hello Everyone
Im an english girl living (temporarily) on a beautiful greek island. (but sadly fast becoming one of the ugliest places ive ever lived)
To cut a long story short... the animal situation here is horryfying to say the least. There are only two shelters on the whole of the island and they are packed out. Im in a village where i could safely say its only us expats who look out for the dogs/cats etc. They are being poisoned and generally mistreated beyond belief. I see it now as one of my main purposes of being here to help our little friends.
I have many many questions as im no expert on dogs - or at least stray dogs. I try and look after the strays until a place becomes available at the shelter. The main prob here is the ticks (mediterranean) - i have no experience of these and for now am just pulling them off and dabbing area with alco wipes. if there is a better way please tell me. My main concern right now is getting the dogs cleaned/fed and watered. I can't offer them shelter in my home as i have two year old babies running around. So as the weather here is warm (well now). The dogs are outside. (would like to make a kennel... any advice on this?)
I really am at my wits end - i would just like some good solid advice on what i should do as a first with the dogs as and when they appear.
Thankfully right now we only have one 'rocco' who had been dumped here with a puppy. Puppy was taken straight into shelter and was near death... thankfully now doing very well.
I want to make sure we keep Rocco in ship shape until a space becomes available.
SOrry for long ramble. I don't think i have ever witnessed such cruelty... and i just hope i get some good advice.
Many thanks for listening! Also if im allowed i would like to add a link to the website for the shelter here if anyone would like to have a look...
regards
