Default help with biting

I have a small dog that I got from a rescue in smithers bc canada about 2 years ago now. she is just in the last year become friendly with the family. she was very skittish when we got her. My problem with her now is that if my children or anyone for that matter, sits next to me or puts the arms around me she attacks them. Last night she bit my son in the face for sitting on my lap. I don't want to get rid of her but the safety of my children comes first. Can someone help me to get her to stop being like this. Thank You!

Bit your son in the face??? For sitting on your lap??

You don't need a forum, you need to get to a behaviorist FAST!

That dog is dangerous, and the reasons why can be infinite...there is no "quick fix" that you can get from a message board. If you are determined to keep the dog (admirable, but under the circumstances possibly misguided) then you HAVE to address this problem immediately! If you are in Smithers, you might have a problem finding a good behaviorist, or any behaviorist for that matter. Talk to the shelter where you got her, and see if they can recommend anyone. In the meantime, don't let her near your kids.

If you can't find someone to help you and her with this...I honestly think this is a situation where she needs to go to someone else who can find the right resources and correct her problems. Doing nothing will only worsen the situation and put your children and the dog at far greater risk of harm.

Yeah you really need expert trainers and their advice. When she starts with that behavior, she shows really bad domination behavior.

you have to introduce everybody in your family to your dog... and help her to get use to it...

she needs to see YOU as the leader of the pack, she is very confused.

google NILIF for help & put into action immediately. I'll bet the dog sits in your lap too - so she saw your son as taking over her space.

you let this get completely out of control so you can't expect an immediate fix. I agree, keep the kids away from her
