Jesse died
I am inconsolable. My 13 year old lab died unexpectantly this weekend. We came home after our evening walk, he vomited a little bit, defecated, then went down, his heart was beating very very rapidly and then he just died. It all happened in about 2-3 minutes. He had no symptoms other than, over this last 3-4 weeks, not wanting to go on our twice daily walks. He would lie down on the kitchen floor and not want to go. This was unlike him. I attributed it to his old age and did not see it as anything to be alarmed about.
I did not have an autopsy done. I was too much in shock and at the time, thought the cause of his death did not matter...it would not change anything. Jesse was gone. When I talked to my vet yesterday (unfortunately he had been out of town all weekend and I had to deal with an emergency vet clinic), he said that Jesse's last exam in January had shown everything to be normal. The vet mentioned that hemangiosarcoma could possibly have been a cause of death----that it was very common in large, old, male dogs. I have done a lot of reading on the Internet over the last day and this seems to make sense to me. I think if I can understand what happened, maybe my grief will be different, a little less painful. His death was so sudden, so unexplainable. Can anyone share anything that would help me understand this sudden death of my sweet Jesse dog? Thank you.
