I have just taken ownership of a lovely choclate Labtador/Retriever called Benson from the Labrador Trust.
Benson is a pedigree 2 1/2 year old who knows all his commands but has a problem.
Benson was attacked by a Doberman when he was a puppy and hence when he is out and sees another dog he will lunge on his lead and bark.
If he is off his lead he will not so much ATTACK the other dog but will try and dominate it.
HAs anyone any tips on how we can cure this problem as we would very much like him to be more sociable.

don't put to much pressure on him at one time. some dogs take a couple months to settle in.
it would also help if he learns that you are the alpha & understands that you will protect him. google NILIF for immediate help with that.

you need to be strong when walking him. if you see a dog approaching, talk to your dog quietly but firmly, constantly & walk swiftly & on a very short leash. if you are using a flexi lead - trash it & get a 5' or 6' - 2" wide real leash

oh I guess you're using a halti or such - it's not working - sounds like some leash agression going on there too.

You can enroll him on behavior/obedience class too. If you could let someone, who also owns a dog, to approach him and give him treat then show how he pet his dog, I think he will be able to see how lovely the other dogs are.
