Talking Hey, i'm new to this forum and dogs.....

well, i really havn't had that much expereince with dogs. my sister has owned all the dogs and i was more of a cat person. but then as me and my sister got older, (i am now 13 and she is 15) we have learned and got to know dogs a little better. our old family dog, sheena passed away about 2 weeks ago. we just got back from a border collie breeder, and we are picking up a puppy tomorrow morning. my sister is very good with dogs and being a trainer. our old dog sheena was very very well trained. she knew every command you can teach a dog. we also have a tree in our backyard that is split, and she taught sheena to jump through the tree.
now that my sister is getting a dog, and is entering it in agility, i am getting more and more interested in dogs and agility and the sports that they can do.
what dog do you think would be good for me? i have had little experience actually owning a dog of my own, and i have only had experience with an older dog. i want to get into "dock-dogs" and agility and stuff like that.
i was kinda thinking about a duck tolling retreiver? would that be good for a sporting dog for a beginner dog owner? what dog would you sudjest?
sorry for the long post.
newbieee!

Hi,
I personall would go for a border collie for your first dog, as they are fairly easy to train because they are clever dogs also they are very good at all kinds of sport and are willing to do most things as they love to please you.

I agree with belle about getting a Border Collie. But, if you are looking for a sporting dog like a retriever, I'd go for maybe a golden or a lab. They are eager to please, trainable, and mostly recommended for first-time dog owners. Tollers are nice dogs too, and if you are looking for something a bit smaller, then I'd say go for it. However, be prepared for a long search to find one because that breed is rare. There are only about 400 of them registered with the U.S. club.

Whatever you choose, be sure to do your research and make sure the breed is really what you want.

Since you have good experience with Border Collies, stick with them at the moment. They are great, energetic, intelligent and so lovely dogs.
