hi my name is vilicia i just adopted a mini pincher from the animal shelter and i will be able to pick it up friday , i am very nervose because he is not like most dogs from his breed , he is very timid and shy , please can some one give me advice on how to welcome him into my home and what i should do to warm him up to me so that he will like me, he is 3 years old

Hi, welcome to the forum! First, go get some yummy dog treats-- small little bite sized ones. Take a few with you when you go get him, and offer him one as soon as they bring him out to you. Give him another when you pick him up in your arms. When you get him into the house, just leave him be for a few minutes, and let him explore. Make sure you already have everything set up for him-- where his bed is going to be, where his feeding area is going to be, his water dish, etc. After a few minutes, sit on the couch and try to call him, by offering a treat. If he comes to you, give him the treat and praise him. Same with exploring outside. Give him a few minutes to explore and potty, and then sit down and call him, offering a treat. Give him the treat and praise him when he comes to you. Keep doing this until he starts coming to you on his own. Then you can substitute praise/petting for the treat.
