Default Need Help!!! Dog Breaking Out of Crate!!!

Hi! I have the best dog ever named Sam!!! He's a rescue and he is around 9 months old. We brought him home when he was 4 months old. For a puppy I promise you he is great. My problem is when we leave him he is actually breaking out of his crate. I'm talking about beating the crate with his nose and head until it bends or the door opens. We left him out of the crate for a while but he's in his chewing phase and everyday he's messed up something else. Anyone know of a safe and sturdy crate for a dog? He's 37lbs...not going to get much bigger. Thanks.

Angie

I had a rescue foster do that used to bloody his nose trying to get out of the crate. I was using one of the plastic vari-kennels (the airline approved ones) for him. I switched him over to one of the wire open crates and he did just fine in it. If you're already using a wire crate, have you tried maybe just gating him off in a bathroom, laundry room, etc. Are you giving him something to do in his crate to occupy his time, i.e., yummy stuffed kong, bully stick, raw meaty bone, or other long-time chew?

You can also try using some natural anti-anxiety supplements. I really like the Anxiety made by Homeopets, or I've heard that many great results with the D.A.P. products as well.

Default thanks...

Thanks for responding. Yeah sam is doing the same thing to his nose. He has a wire crate. I give him 3 bones (which he loves) but it's not enough. He's fine in the crate at night as long as we are there. He doesn't cry when we leave (although he used to). I've thought of putting him in a bathroom, etc...we'll see. Thanks so much.

He might bored or something. How much walk and exercise does he get a day?

I agree with wishbone... why not try trowing some toys in the crate and dont keep your dog inside the crate for too long... Sam still needs some fresh air...
