First timer to the group
I am new to the list and not really good at this type of thing. I wanted to become a member of the group after hearing an author talk on a radio show about pet loss and his book, Just This Side of Heaven.
One of his five tips for pet lovers was to have a support system in place to celebrate good news, ask questions of other pet owners and also help when the time comes in the case of sickness or a pet passes on.
He said there were groups on the Internet of pet lovers, which I did not know. While my pet is healthy and young, I thought I would take his advice and become a member. So I Googled and here I am.

A rescue Bischon
I hope I am replying correctly to Saz. I have only one pup at this time and she is a rescue Bischon that adopted me. I guess we are not sure who rescued who. Her name is Daisy.

New to the group
Hi everyone I just joined this group. I will tell everyone a little about my self. My name is Tammy and I have a daughter Nicole who is 9 and we have 3 animals...a bird (cockatiel), cat and a dog. I have been looking for information on my dog and finally found this website. My dog is a german shepard/rottweiler mix and is 4 years old. He has been really sick the past 5 months and over a thousand dollars latter the vet finally found what was wrong with him. I don't really know where to post for this yet, I have not been able to look around much in the site so I will try to make this as short as possible. Jack had a bladder infection and tested positive for heartworms.(he was on heartguard but I took him off during winter months..)they thought that was what was making him so sick. His xrays and blood work came back and his heart looked good. They said it was just mild and put him on clavamox...for three months for the bladder infection. He never responded hardly at all with the medicine. Then he developed a horrible eye infection which they said it was pink eye and put him on an antibiotioc and gave him pain medicine....three weeks later his eye was so swollen they gave him predisone and his prostate was swollen three times the normal size. They finally did more blood work and said he had histoplasmosis...and gave him 0 percent chance of survival. They told me that I should go ahead and put him to sleep because the infection had spread and I refused...I wanted to try one week of the fungal medication and see if he responded. It has been two months and he has gained nearly 15 pounds and almost back to normal....except his eye is still so swollen after 3 months of predisone. They want to remove it now and I really was hoping that it would get better. They want to put him back on heartguard and I am afraid to allow that because he is finally recovering but still has 2-3 months of the fungal medicine left.
I hope by joining I will be able to get some information if anyone has ever went through something like this. I can really use some advice. I love my dog and he is part of our family and I don't want to make the wrong decisions but I feel lost.

Rescued after owner passed on
Saz,
That is so odd, when I was contacted by a breeder about Daisy her owner was ill. I rescued her after the owner passed away and the owner's family did not want her. Go figure? She has been great.
