Default New with 2 dogs, thinking of adding another one to the family

Greetings from NC. I am new here and would like some opinions. I have a senior english bulldog, Dixie (my love) and about 7 months ago we added a 8 week old pit mix, Daddy (puppy power) who is now 9 months old.

Anyway, we had hoped that they would eventually get along and like each other, but I guess do to the huge age span they still do not get along.

Dixie is old, arthritic and deaf; so she doesn't like the fact of a puppy bouncing all around poking her with his nose and swatting her on the head.

Daddy is a good dog, but he is still a pup. We did a puppy PetSmart class that helped him learn the basics, but we feel he wants so badly to play with another dog.

Both are indoor dogs that we have trained to go outside to play and potty. We have a under-ground fence that works great and keeps Daddy put. If we rescued another dog we thought that while Dixie is inside resting and napping, the pups could play with each other and have some company.

What I am unsure of is:
1. would the younger dogs gang up on my older Dixie?
2. how hard is it with 2 young dogs living in your home (I have never had 2 energetic dogs at the same time) should I wait until Daddy gets older and more mature?

thanks for your time and I hope everyone is having a great new year!!!

I think you should wait for Daddy to be more mature, maybe around when he's two years old or something before getting new bouncy one.

where in NC? I am in between fayetteville and Aberdeen
I just went thru this LOL- I had a 4 & 5 yr old and wanted another- was told this dog was like 1.5 years old............NOT it was a PUPPY like 9-10 mos old and hyper..........so not only did they not like her she was a spaz and it was not until she settled in (4 mos later) that at 6 mos I said NAH I gotta get her a friend........so I did and now the puppy (5 mos) is too much for her BUT they do play alot and the other 2 are left being blobs again. SO if your doing it- do it now and get the same age/activity level and as long as the older dog presents itself as alpha you should have no issues- let me know what you decide and where you live (if u want lol)

I would advise waiting until your younger dog is at least 2 years old, a a little more mature, but also by that time your oldie will be a lot older and not so easily able to cope with another youngster in the family. It is a bit of a dihelima as to what to do for the best.

We have a 11 year old jrt and a 3 year old border terrier, and a 9 month old border terrier, they are a very happy little family. You know your dogs best, if you think that your oldie would not cope, it is kinder to not get another.

My pup is play's lots with the border 3 years old, but now is inviting the jrt to play as well, he seems to enjoy joining in even at his age, and the youngsters have given him a new lease of life.

We had to think seriously if we could afford another dog as well in this presant financial time we are in where there is credit crunch everywhere.

good luck with what ever you decide
