Smile New newbie

Hi Guys

I'm new here and am looking forward to participating in all sorts of threads.

I have an adorable little Norwich Terrier who is 9 months old now, called Tangle. She is so sweet, but a little bit naughty, likes to chase my chickens! Not a good thing. The trouble is the chickens make so much noise when they see her coming she gets all excited. I wonder if anyone has any ideas of how to train her with these. Otherwise she's quite good!

Suzy

hmm.. maybe you could separate the chickens from your dog. My dog used to chase our neighbor's chickens and they make these irritating sounds.. That's why I had to put my dog into a place where he could not see the chickens.

Having said my dog is quite good, as of yesterday I have changed my mind! We live in quite a rural place with a long road where we can walk the dogs. Yesterday, I let her out into the garden, she spied another dog and their owner, found a gap in the hedge and just went. No amount of calling would bring her back until she had disappeared around the corner. A few minutes later I think she realized she couldn't catch up with the much larger dog and the owner who was on a bicycle, so she turned round and came running back. I fear she is a little terrier. They have a mind of their own. In fact I'm going to start a thread about terrier stories.

I think you should starting on recall training. Whenever she's on the run after or will act to chase them, destruct her, spray water on her or drop a can to get her attention then followed by "no" or "stop" command.
