New member with 11 1/2 year old mixed breed dog, Casper. He is medium size, weighs about 68 lbs. Recently he has a strong 'doggie odor" He is an inside /outside dog but spends more time indoors. His odor is really bothersome even tho' I bathe him at least twice a month. I ue Sergeants shampoo and rinse him well but in a couple days --- he stinks!
Anyone else have this problem with their pet? Any ideas what to do?

You can change you shampoo maybe its not effective to your dog...
If your dog smell not good...
You can bathe him to eliminate bad smell...
Because there is no strict recommendation on how often we need to bathe our dog...
I have an article regarding dog bathing...
You can read it in my blog in my signature below...
Hope it can help you...

I guess his active lifestyle makes him exude that certain dog odor. But you can try bathing him at least once a week and see if it works. And maybe you should try other dog soaps to know which one works best for your dog. And as much as possible, keep him indoors so he would not get stinky odors outside.

Have you taken him to the vets to rule out health/skin problems?

I've been do a bit of research on this but I don't claim to be an expert. I've been told by my dog's groomer not to bath more frequently than two weeks. Weekly will create a skin problem and could be contributing to odor rather than helping. I've already been told that letting the dog air-dry can lead to yeast infections which would create an odor. So, you will want to blow dry the dog.
