Hyper Cockapoo Puppy
Hi guys, we're facing a few issues with our Cockapoo puppy and would LOVE some help. Our first dog, we got Eeva about 2 months ago. She is about 5 months old now, we've been taking her to puppy classes.
Our biggest problem is that she is HYPER HYPER HYPER. When someone new comes home, early in the morning, when she is with other puppies in class (she is the most hyper one in class, to the point we can't do several exercises with her in class because she is too distracted... and she is the only one like this, all the others calm down after their playtime is over). The trainer says that it will get better, but we're losing hope and patience quickly.
Is this a problem with the breed or is it just our dog. And if it does in fact get better, by what age can we expect her to clam down a bit (and please don't say when she turns 10, I'll start crying like a baby!!!). Anything you guys can recommend to control her behavior would be greatly appreciated. Oh we walk her daily, also bought a treadmill (extremely cold to take her out for too long) and she walks on that some (although the trainer told us to use the treadmill for short walks only as they're not very good for thr joints of young puppies), play fetch with her a lot, but she remains hyper even when she is visibly tired...

First, take a deep breathe...very good. Again. Okay. Feel better?
Puppies...gotta love'em...take a wiff of their puppy breathe...yeah, gotta love that!
Sounds like you have yourself a high energy dog. Regardless of breed (or mixed breed) generalized characteristics, each dog is an individual. Some are couch potatoes and teachers' pets and others are wall-bouncers and...well...ADHD. I have recently adopted a 3 year old cocker spaniel who is ADHD so I can commiserate.
Exercise. Exercise. Exercise. This is how we survive our sweet, hyper babies. Mental exercise as well as physical. My baby will also zone out in class -- he is good for about 40-45 minutes of reasonably good focus before he is DONE. He would much rather play or explore than learn something but he will learn--I just have to be patient and know when to end the lessons. I had originally thought we might work toward competing in Rally-O....now I know better! But, I think he will do great with Agility...we're hoping anyway.
My mantra: I love my ADHD boy. I love my ADHD boy. I love my ADHD boy.
That and lots of deep breathes and a good sense of humor about it will get us through!

Well your dog is half poodle, which poodles are VERY hyper.
Research cocker spaniels and poodles. Cockapoo isnt a reall breed, just a fancy name for a mutt.

Hey SwayRaines, next time you open your mouth... just give it a rest. If you don't have anything helpful or important to say, just shut your piehole and and keep your damn opinion to yourself!!!

Well your the one coming on here with the millionth question of "WHY IS MY PUPPY HYPER!" Its a puppy. Puppies are hyper, bottom line. If you would have done your research you would have known that poodles are an extremely hyper dog and are basically hyper til the day they die. End of story.

There is no way to predict the temperament or activity level of a mixed breed. Every poodle mix I have met has been different... and I groom TONS of them. Poodles mixed with cockers, labs, schnauzers, aussies, goldens, beagles, etc. They are all very different but all VERY active. Poodles are a sporting breed (yes they are in the non-sporting class but they are retrievers and very active). Have you thought about getting involved in agility, rally, flyball or even taking a field trial class? Those are all great ways to get out and get your dog tired! We had a poodle mix join us for our hunt test training group once and he was GREAT!! Just something to try since your dog is a mix of 2 hunting breeds and it is SO FUN! Hope this helps you out.

Your dog really bouncy because of her age and breed, I've met couple of cockapoo pups and they are really active and loves to run. One thing I think you should focus is on her recall, that even she's bouncy she should listen to you.
