Hello
My name is Andrea and I just got my puppy today. He is 11wks old, blue heeler/vizla mix. Just adorable. I was wondering if anyone had some tips to make him feel more at home. He was an outside/barn dog with his litter mates. Only coming inside at night. I have noticed that he is a bit timid. I also have two adult cats to introduce him to(whom have never seen a dog) and wondered what the least stressful way of introducing them would be? I also want to know if there were any bad habits i may need to be watching for since he was mostly an outside pup. He will have his first go-around with the vet tomorrow.

Thanks in Advance,
Andrea & Isamaru

HI! and Welcome!
Can't really tell you much on what you asked about, but have this book that tells about each breed and thought you might be interested in this---You are probably going to have a very energetic dog as this is what it says for both the Vizsla and the Heeler--almost word for word for both--This is what it says for the Vizsla: (My son has one of these) This is an energetic working dog with enormous stamina. It needs plenty of opportunity to run, preferably off the leash, and a lot of regular exercise. If these dogs are allowed to get bored, they can become destructive. BE AWARE: Vizslas are great jumpers and, if bored, will escape from a yard that does not have a sufficiently high fence. Good watchdog. Heelers: These animals have incredible stamina and will enjoy all the activity you can give them. Exercise is of paramount importance--without enough they can be bored and destructive. Excellent watchdog.
My son's dog escaped not only once but twice and you wouldn't believe how fast and how far they can get in just a short period of time. The 1st time it took off --it took 6 months to find him! Hope you are an athletic -type person!
