Default Puppy Question

I just adopted a 10 week old puppy from a local shelter. The shelter guessed he is a lab/shepard mix, mainly based on the fact that his sister has the coloring of a German Shepard. I think he might be an Australian Shepard, due to his blue eyes. What do you think? (there should be a pic of him attached.

Thanks!
Michelle

Default Choc Lab / Husky Mix?

I think that your pup looks very much like a husky / chocolate lab mix. See pics of each below.

Either that or a Husky German Shepard mix. Anyway thats my best guess.

Default Australian Shepherd

The Australian Shepherd is a breed of herding dog that was developed on ranches in the Western United States. Despite its name, the breed, commonly known as an Aussie, did not in fact originate in Australia.[1][2] They acquired their name because of its association with Basque sheepherders who came to the United States from Australia.[3]

Australian Shepherds rose rapidly in popularity with the boom of western riding after World War II. They became known to the general public through rodeos, horse shows, and through Disney movies made for television.

looks like there could be some husky in there. Blue eyes are not just found in Aussies. I bred Aussies in the late 60's to through the 70's before most knew what they were. Most do not have blue eyes. Plus, Aussie ears do not stand.
You could easily have husky in your dog. It is gorgeous no matter what the mix.

Talking Thanks

Thanks so much for the posts. I didn't really notice the Aussie ears before. Could be some Husky...hmm guess it's still a mystery for now.

Thanks again!

Michelle

Looks like you might be onto something! The coat coloring is much more like an Australian Shepherd than a choc lab, and the white chest hair is more indicative of same than a German Shepherd or lab unless lots of cross breeds are represented.

I agree with Yogi, I saw husky first off. Which could be why he is so fluffy! Its hard to tell when they are so little though. It will be easier to tell as he gets bigger.

Red face

I would say he is a husky mix of some kind most all huskys have blue eyes but he could be mixed with siberian husky not australin. Either way he is beautiful. Good luck with him!!!
