Haha I have the same problem usually I refer to all dogs as her but thats because with the acception of a black lab I had when I was younger all my dogs have been spayed girls.

We are trying to come up with names for her (the new baby) I have a few picked out but can't decide maybe I should start a new thread so I can ask everyone what they think it should be we have narrowed it down to three!

Just a quick update she has a vet visit again tomorrow at 11:30 I am taking her to a vet in a bigger town my vet is ok for dogs who are just going for routine stuff like shots but I would like to have her double checked. We will be paying a lot more but piece of mind is priceless to me.

I'm a very cautious person, lah, must be the Taurus trait coming out! I always try to think of all the pros and cons to everything. The pro here is of course---getting HER, (lol) double checked but I also worry about too much exposure--a vet's office may have some "bad things" lurking around because of so many other dogs in and out that are sick or have some kind of disease--
that's like the problem of us picking up something when we go to the doctor!
I'm not trying to tell you what to do---Guess I just want you to weigh all the pros and cons, sorry! If you do go to the vet--Be sure to ask about the vac. issues. In a way I kind of hate telling you that because knowing how most vets are about shots, the vet will prob. tell you to get the shots soon and this is another-"should I or shouldn't I situation. I always wished there was a holistic vet that lived near me because I put more faith in them than the reg. vets.
What names do you have it narrowed down to? I wish we knew what it (she) is going to look like so could get a better idea for a name----but one thing---a name that means Lucky would suit her right now----but I hate that name for a dog (Lucky). There are places on the internet that gives a bunch of names for dogs and some places tell you what the name means. Bye for now.

Cool

HI again today

We were talking about names---kind of a coincidence--I was just looking at pet pics over on another forum I'm in and up comes a members pics and one of his dogs is named--Keeper----and not sure I'd pick that name but you know right now that fits (2 reasons) 1st she is a keeper and 2ndly--'Keep Her'. This forum is called Pet forum for dogs cats and humans - Pets.ca Just had to tell you about it--thought it was kind of

Just an update. She is doing good vet yesterday said she is a tiny thing but is a fighter because she has made it this far. We named her Mylie we figured it was a cute name for a sweet strong little girl. I am so happy she has gained 3 ozs which isn't a lot to most people but it makes us super excited she is thriving. I will try post pictures tomorrow thanks everyone!

Thumbs up Happy for You Both!!

Ditto for what post says above!! That name is a good one--I like it--don't think I ever heard of it before, Hey! makes me think of the dog Marley-(not the characteristics, but the sound of the name)--Read that book long before the movie came out--good book. But when you look at the word: Miley, I see the mile part and makes me think she has 'gone' the mile and is a fighter (like you said) so will hopefully go the rest of the miles to a healthy little girl! She is going to be so attached to you! Can't wait to see what she is going to look like!

Just came back in here---See I spelled the name wrong--but the mile "stuff" still applies!

Thumbs up So happy, this may calm the baby

AWWWW! sweet furbaby, hey when I had puppies, I always got a cheap wind up alarm clock and put it under the covers..the sound of the ticking reminds the baby of it's mothers heart beat and seams to keep them at calm.

Any watch or clock that you can hear the tic toc will work. So happy the baby is doing well.

What a great thread! Everyone pitched in here so well and have given some life saving advise. As I read the thread, I mentally added things that I thought you should know. All of my ideas have been covered, almost
One thing you may want to keep in mind, now that your pup seems to be maintaining her temp: She should be able to move away from her heat source if she gets too warm. By hanging your light in a corner of her nest, she will have a place that is warm and still have the chance to move out of the direct heat when she is too warm. Being too warm may be as dangerous as being too cold.
I'd like to reiterate that it may not have been some "sicko" who left your new little bundle on the doorstep. I have seen whelping females (especially first time moms) have a pup and not know what was happening. This can be very frightening for a new mom and if she wasn't at home when the pangs hit, she may have been trying to get in anywhere she thought she might be able to get away from "it". This is almost as heart wrenching as the sicko scenario for some of us who love dogs more than people!
Your pup looks like it may be a Rat Terrier or Jack Russel Terrier, but time will tell more.
I'm proud of you for taking the responsibility of life saving for the little princess! It isn't just anyone who would take the challenge. Good luck and please keep us posted.

Hi----Been a week since we've heard from you. Hope it is just because you are busy and that the little girl is still doing okay! Please tell us some good news.
