Unhappy New Puppy Help !!!!

I just picked up a 7 week old English Springer Spaniel on Friday evening, It was a four hour trip one way, on the way home the puppy started out stitting on my wife's lap, Until she got sick and threw up on here. . We had a meduim size crate with us, Which was suffient size for her. I had planned on placing the puppy in for the trip home. She started out pretty good riding in the crate, About half way home she started crying and whimmpering and Howling( which I expected most of it) I also didn't expect every time we go to place her in the Crate she starts all over again until we let her out. As soon as we place her in there to go to bed at night she is trying to get out faster than she went in there. and back to the howling and all the above again.

Sunday evening my wife and i went out to eat, when got out of the truck we could hear her yelping, we were gone for 2 hours at the most.

Do I need to try something different as in the crate? Did i ruin her from ever being able to be in a crate ever? What advise can i get? i'm open to any and all.

Thanks for reading

Jason

What does she have for her to entertain when you leave her? My friend with the same situation, sometimes she leaves her dog in a room which is safe for him, no sharp or anything he could reach or chew. She leaves the TV on and with his toys with him.

I think more information is in order...
Is the crate accessible to your puppy at times other than when you want to 'lock' him/her up?
Dogs appreciate having a 'den' to call their own - the crate is often the den used by domesticated dogs. The den should be a safe place and a comfortable place - never a place of punishment.
Have you added a blanket to the den/crate and toys? What about treats? If you make going into the crate a pleasant experience your puppy will soon associate the crate with good things.
It is normal for a new puppy to go through an adjustment period. Keep in mind that your puppy just left his/her mom and littermates. This is a traumatic period for the puppy and your job is to help the pup through it.
New puppies need the comfort of knowing they are not alone - at least for a few days. If the problem seems to be the crate itself perhaps you should consider using a doggie play pen instead. These can be purchased at Wal-Mart online for about $60. They can be adjusted to various sizes and shapes and they are big enough to add a bed area, an area for play, and even a puppy pad.
I hope I said something that helps...
