Greetings from New England!
Oh, where do I start? I live half a mile past nowhere in New England, and I'm nothing short of a sucker for dogs. I've grown up with dogs in my family, and all of my relatives have a dog in their family as well.
This is my second online community to join, and the first one being dog related. I am an active member on Zelda Dungeon - a Legend of Zelda based fansite. I've also been active on Yahoo! Answers, where I stick mostly to the Dogs section and Religion & Spirituality section (some may find this silly since I am an atheist).
I am an active protester against puppy mills, animal cruelty, and backyard breeders. I lack tolerance when it comes to ignorant terms used to describe the sizing of a pup. These terms would include the following: Pocket, Micro, Mini (in cases where the AKC breed standard does not include miniature), and Teacup. These are inaccurate terms used by backyard breeders who poorly breed runts, which produces sickly puppies and use these terms to market them to increase profit. I state this now for those who do not know.
I support the AKC and I have absolutely no patience or respect for the plenty of low quality registries that are in the United States. I also support the SPCA and Humane Society. I find that everyone has the right to decide where they acquire their dog, and I say that being a previous owner of a 15 year old shelter dog - and the future owner of AKC registered of a Shiba Inu and Papillon. I am a novice when it comes to comformation, although, I plan to handle the dogs at the kennel that I work for in the nearby future.
I work at a kennel that has been breeding AKC Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs and Bernese Mountain Dogs since 1986. In fact, their breeding stock is part of the foundatin stock that influenced the approval of the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog in the American Kennel Club. They've been to Westminster numerous of times, and have came back with No.1 Best in Breed.
I am excited to involve myself in this community and take the time to get to know those who are active members here.
