Need some help
:???:I have a 6 month old Rat Terrior and I have had her for 3 months. I am having extreme difficulties potty training her and I am at a loss for what to do. I take her outside to the back yard and wait till she does her duty and then give her a treat. We come inside and within minutes she does more duties somewhere in the house, she does not have a specific place either, she does her duties EVERYWHERE. I take her out and she whines to come back in. At this point she has ruined my carpeting throughout my house. WHAT DO I DO. Any Help would be appreciated.
Thank You.
Dollie

Welcome to the board Dollie. Sad to hear about you and your dog's situation. Maybe you should work making schedules for your dog, a time for meals, for exercise & play, time for potty breaks (often around 15-30 mins after meal), etc. Also totally cleaning up the house to eliminate her pee scents will help, for dogs usually able to smell their pee scent and pee on that again. There are good products there or home made solutions that could help to make those smells totally gone. Also make a spot outside where she could smell her scent and pee on that again.

wishbone has pretty much covered it. Dogs are routine oriented therefore it is up to you to set a routine and follow it so the dog becomes accustomed to it.
In addition, Terrier breeds in general are very difficult to house train on the whole. Being this is a pup, take the dog in the yard and play with it, this increases the dogs metabolism thus increases the pups need to go. As this dog gets a little older the natural high energy in the breed will start to show and you will see an improvement in going outside during play time. Key word with Terrier house training, patience.

Are you free feeding or do you feed 2 x aday? If you are free feeding then you need to try feeding 2 x aday and then after it eats then take utside. If keeps on peeing in the house then you need to crate it in a small crate that it can not stand up in. If they can stand up then they can pee and poop in the crate. I have potty trained pups before and that is how i always did when i was having troble with them going outside. As soon as you bring the pup back in put it in the crate so it wil not go in the house. You also need to take the pup out every 30 mins because their bladers are small and they need to go more offen then a year old dog.
Just like someone said make sure you clean up all of the pee in the house if you don't then the pup will keep on peeing in thoses spots.
