Default Hi Everyone - I really need some advice on a new puppy

Hi

I currently have 2 dogs 5 years old each - 1 Stafforshire Bull Terrier (soft as a brush!! and a collie cross (playful!!) There a really happy pair and love puppies!!

My problem is - I am getting married in 5 weeks and there is a puppy (another staff bull terrier) who i am interested in getting. My 2 dogs love the kennells and will go in no problem as they love their holidays!! However the puppy would be 13 weeks when we go away and im not sure if putting it nto kennells is the right thing to do. The vet thinks that the puppy will be fine as the age for kennels is from 8 weeks.
The puppy would be in the same kennell as my other 2 dogs if we decided it was the right thing to do

This is the only thing stopping me from getting the new puppy at the moment and i feel like im stuck as i dont know what to do for the best!

I do have family members willing to look after the pup while were away but would this case more damage - being taught a new routine?

Help!!! :-D

Thanks

Hello Lc2009,

welcome to the board.

Normally I would give you the advice to wait until you are back from your holidays before purchasing another dog.
The new pup just knows the new people and everything around him and then is in another place, and after that he will be back again. These circumstances are not good for a pup who needs a person by his side, one person he will find a good and lovely relationship to.

But if you don't want to resign from your wish to take the puppy to you, than I would prefer to give it to the family during your absence.
The puppy needs a human being next to him all the time. The kennel situation can not guarantee that. So the pup will orientate on both of the other dogs. He has no other possibility.

This can bring further problems with it, because your dog is still in its sensitive phase and maybe will never find 100% attention to its owner in future.

Welcome. How's your plan when you have him? He needs good attention and training who still have other two. Also when you get pregnant is another case. Maybe you can just sit and think about the incoming situations and all your resources if you can give the full attention and care for your furbabies. For me, I think it is not the right time. Please keep us updated with your plans. Hope you enjoy stay around.
