HI! Again! I just posted a few hrs. ago about the importance of your pup being with it's mother for a few more wks.--12 wks old would be the best time to take it from it's mother. I know you are excited about this new puppy --but do you think this worker of your dad's that you got the puppy from could take it back and keep it for you for a little while longer--until it is fully socialized, etc--It needs to be with not only the mother dog but the bros. and sisters to learn more so you will have a better adjusted little girl. Hopefully the rest of the litter is still together.

Seven weeks is awfully young to take a pup from mama. I've had puppies that young when there was no other alternative but, the little one would really be better of with mom for at least three weeks if it is at all possible.

Welcome mate, how's your new addition? She's little bit young to be separated but hoping he's just fine with your care. Waiting too to see any pic of your furbaby and for us to guess her breed.

Didn't you say it was 7 weeks old in your 1st post??!! A week can make a big difference, believe it or not! And yes, 8 weeks is 'acceptable' but 12 weeks and beyond are even better. I will quote you from a home vet handbook I have: The 1st 12 wks. of life are extremely important and determine, to a great extent, a puppy's personality and sociability. Recent studies show that puppies go through a series of developmental stages. The successful negotiation of each stage is essential to avoiding future problems such as timidity, fear-biting, phobias and dominance aggression.
Separating puppies from their mothers and littermates too soon has been found to have adverse effects on a puppy's weight and physical condition. During the period between 3 and 8 wks. of age, puppies are receptive to and greatly influenced by interactions with their dams (mothers), littermates and other dogs on the premises. These interactions enable the puppy to develop self-awareness and adopt appropriate dog behavior.
SUCESSFUL INTERACTIONS ARE THOSE THAT BUILD CONFIDENCE, ARE NONSTRESSFUL AND DO NOT FRIGHTEN THE PUPPY. The ability to get along with dogs later in life is due, in part, to a smooth transition through this 3 to 8 wk. stage. THUS, PUPPIES SHOULD REMAIN WITH THEIR DAMS (MOTHERS) AND LITTERMATES UNTIL THEY ARE 8 TO 10 WEEKS OF AGE AND ARE FULLY WEANED AND EATING PUPPY FOOD. unquote. Also the mother's milk helps give protection from some diseases.

Very Cute!!
Just saw your album---a real cute baby--that one!! And she sure looks like a Yorkie pup---The Yorkie changes in looks a lot when it gets older.---gets an ultra-long, fine, silky coat that parts along the spine and falls straight down on either side. (that was a quote from my breeds book) and this a quote on the adult Shih Tzu's coat: thick, long, luxuriant coat. I guess the difference in the 2 coats would be fine and silky (Yorkie)versus thick, luxuriant (Shih Tzu). Anyway it will be interesting to see what she will look the most like as she gets older, Lol, Keep the pics coming as she gets older and have a lot of fun with her while she is a little puppy--they grow up fast---not saying she won't be fun all the time, but when it is a little puppy--It is a special time!!
