My dog won't eat!
Hi all!
I'm a new member. I joined because I need advice! My family recently rescued a new 10 month old Harrier mix. We named her Tess. We already have an Italian Greyhound, 5 year old, George. After 2 days of playing and enjoying Tess, George figured out that this 'playdate' is permanent. He will not eat or drink. It's been 4 days. We are trying everything. I know IGs are emotional sensitive dogs...but George is used to living with another dog. Our previous German Shepard mix, Andie died in May. Andie was our dog before George. What can I do to get George out of his funk? By the way, Tess had Kennel cough when we got her. She is fully recovered (we have had her for a week). I took George to the vet thinking he has it. The vet said no but gave me pills for George anyways. I won't give the pills to George since he won't eat. He has taken a few nibbles of deli turkey or roast beef. This is so hard. George is skinny already and now he looks terrible. We are so sad. Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Allison

Ah, sounds just like my pup (Akasha) when I first got her, she didn't eat for ages and when I finally got her eating it was only when she was feeding from my hand or i was standing next to her. I got tired of this, so I'd started leaving food out- an sure enough she WAS eating, just liked the attention when I fed her (hehe, like a baby)
Here is my mixture feed all my dogs, and I haven't had one turn there nose up at it.
Cook Kangaroo mince in boiling water, add a tablespoon of garlic, bring back to boil, add pasta or rice, simmer for couple minutes, turn off and add frozen veggies, mixing together each step. Allow to cool down (don't want burnt tongues) and serve.
My big dogs get 4 large scoops and a small handful of dry food, and my little dogs get 1 scoop nd half a handful of dry food.

Why in h_ll would that vet give you pills for the pup if he told you the pup did not have the Kennel cough!!! I am so glad you did not give the pills--I'm sure (as are most stuff vets give) there would be some side effects. Your pup's immune system is probably not as healthy as it should be to start with!!
Not the best thing to give a dog-by far--But need to get that stinker to eat and make sure it is drinking water!!--Was going to say here--weiners--not a lot (too many preservatives and salt, etc!) Dogs seem to like weiners a lot!
Just give enough to get his appetite going--and have his reg. food out at same time--leave it for a while and see if his stomach gets 'working' after eating the weiner tidbits. Hope he decides to eat soon--not good!!

George will come around. It sometimes takes dogs a little while to get used to new additions to the family... even if they are used to having other dogs around in the past.

My dog won't eat
Thanks to all who replied! George is getting a little better. We had hamburgers last nite and I made a small patty for him. He loved it - even ate out of his bowl. He played some tug-of-war with Tess. Tess was so sweet and let him win (she's bigger and stronger). I am locking Tess up when I feed George. That helps. He still likes to be fed by hand...baby. I'm gonna try some weiners and what is kangaroo mince???? Sounds interesting! Where do I get it???? This web site is cool! Thanks again!

Kangaroo mince - I get it from my local supermarket in the petfood section. But you can also get kangaroo bones for the petcafe. But, now im in Australia....so, we got heaps of kangaroo's, plus heaps of the meat to buy =) you'll have to look around if your anywhere else, but im sure they'll have something similar, all mince is good. Cooked is better I think, bones raw though.
