I have been looking for A new forum to try. So I registered here. Hope everyone here is cool.

Just so you get an idea of me, I am 28, married, and work as a department manager for a large pet retail chain. I have three dogs, 1 parrot and 1 ferret (I just recently lost one ferret.)

I have a large black lab mix, a dachshund/poodle mix, and a mastiff (who I just got and is ten months old).

I am very interested in nutrition and will probably be there mostly.

I won't shop in pet stores that sell live animals with the exception of PetSmart. They work together with humane societies and rescue organizations to adopt animals. The representatives from those organizations are there on the day that the animals are and they determine who gets to adopt.

My store does not sell dogs. In fact, poor people that ask me that I immediately preach to them the horrors of puppymills, the traumatic experiences of the dogs, and so on. I worked at a petland for all of four days. I quit after I really SAW what was going on there.

We do sell live animals and we also adopt out cats and the occassional small animal.

I am very strongly against purchasing a dog in a store of any kind. I am very for adopting or buying from a responsible breeder. I am a good dog person

The only pet store around here that doesn't sell puppy mill puppies is Petco. But they do bring dogs in from the humane society to adopt out. I think it's a great idea. You go in for cat food, see the adorable doggie, adopt it and you are already in the store to buy everything you need for him. And an abandoned doggie gets a loving home in the process.
