New here and have questions.
Hey everyone just thought i'd say hi and introduce myself. My name is Jen and I have a 7 month old son Liam. I also have 3 other very spoiled children lol. I have a Lab named Fancy, and Pekingese named Max and a Yorkie named Sami. My main reason for getting on here is so I can get some advice from other dog lovers. My lab will not stop licking her paws, she licks them so bad that she creates sores on them and makes them bleed. We have tried everything to get her to stop. Our vet even put her on Prozac because she thought that she had anxiety from our recent move and that's why she was doing it. Well that's it I guess, if anyone has ANY suggestions please let me know I really want her paws to get better. Thanks.
Jen

When Jasmine was with me, I had an identical problem, esp, if the grass was wet. My Vet (her very first and a good one) did not prescribe any meds-he said her paws were just itchy from the grass and advised me to distract her from chewing her feet. It worked-its not a permanent solution-but Jasmine did stop chewing her feet til the next time she went outside.
Hope this helps.

This is common for dogs that have allergies. Also, in some cases dogs that have impacted anal glands.

Allergies
Was also going to say about allergies and suggest you put words like: dogs/allergies in your browser to 'bone' up on the possibility!
And welcome to the forum--Hope you like it here!

Hello Jen,
Are there any other spots that appear to be itchy to Fancy other than the paws? Do the other dogs seem to be itchy too? If so, on the same locations? How long has this been going on? If it only occurs, or just gets way worse, at certain times of the year that will be a huge help in determining the cause. As for a primary problem, there are USUALLY 3 top differentials that come to mind when I think of itchy paws. Atopic dermatitis, food allergy, and to a much lesser extent scabies. However there has def. been plenty of demodex and ringworm cases show up on the limbs too.
They can all be compounded with bacterial infection (or some other infectious agent) if your dog is readily making open sores on his paws. So, to prevent those perpetuating factors from rising up, it's always good to get to the root of the problem.
Without ever seeing a dog in person or knowing if your vet got a minimal data base of testing for demodex, ringworm, etc... or has tried a food trial... there's really not much anyone can do to help you over hte internet. Gotta love dermatology!
