[QUOTE=Rick;77583]How is everyone here?
Just thought I would start an acct on these fourms an say hey, and share a new dog.
I just adopted a dog from the Humane Society yesterday. She is a Shepard Mix. Anyone have any guesses on what she is mixed with? I am thinking Golden Retriever possibly?
I don't see any Golden Retriever at all--Maybe Golden Lab. I have a Cocker Spaniel/Golden Retriever mix so know something of how the Golden Retriever looks. His name is Corky. Also have a pure Cocker named Max, lol, but gets called Paxer most of the time. You can see them on my profile page in my album.
I am attaching a few pics of her. She also has to be an outside dog so got to try and make her comfortable. I just bought a new x-large igloo doghouse last night at petsmart.
Feeding her Science Diet as reccomended by the humane society also.
Sorry, I have to say it like it is--Please find a better dog food---Science Diet is one of the worst!! Do some research and there is plenty on this subject right here in this forum--mainly in the Dog Health and Nutrition forum/section!
She went in the house last night right after I got it and stood up awhile and wouldnt come out, finnaly laid down.
Anyone have ideas to help her adjust to a new home? And she may have been an inside dog wheverever her previous home was. So trying to get her adjusted to being outside day and night.
She will get to ride inside the truck at times when I take her to hikes, dog events, vets.
Anyways give me any advice you have.
This morning I gave her somemore food/water and took her on maybe a one mile walk. She walks well on the leash but tries to pull ahead but minds. She does know the command sit. So she is smart already but sure she is scared.
Everytime I go out there she tries to bark (i know she wants attention) And she was shaking bad also. I am thinking she is just nervous about a new home not outside and it being cold.
Gee, I wish she didn't have to be an outside dog!! Is there any possibility that you could change your mind---At least have her inside at night! I bet she is cold--Prob. not use to it and may never get use to it--Looks like she doesn't have the type of coat for the cold either. Hope you don't have coyotes---They could kill your dog and will if they get the chance! It has been happening a lot in this state---even when the dog is let out at night to go potty and right at the edge of the city!!
Anyone think she will adjust alot more in 2 weeks.
This poor scared little girl needs a lot of attention from you right now and she is prob. scared about being outside too.
Thanks and Have Fun,
-Rick
Please keep reading--More below (to the end of your post readings)
Also last night after she ate her food. I went out there an looked and the pan/bucket I had it in was chewed up all around the top edge (just plastic).
I did give her a dog bone last night and this morning a rubber balll although
Please get her STEEL dog bowls for her food and her water!! Plastic is not good to be eating at all and also is not even good to feed them from! STEEL bowls are the best and not that expensive either. But make sure it is pure steel and no lead or zinc or no galvanized either--as these are poisonous and will make your dog sick or worse!
And I would not give her anything she can (toys, etc.) chew up and esp. nothing she will swallow---Could cause an obstruction besides possibly be toxic too when eaten!
Is this the first dog you have had on your own? My dogs are 10 and 11 now and through the years I have learned a lot about things I wish I had known about in the beginning. I love all dogs and want to see them stay happy and healthy---My dogs are like my children--as are a lot of other members dogs to them. Wish you would also check out a thread I did in this forum called: Foods that are Hazardous to Your Dog--It is in the Dog Health and Nutrition section. This is a long list and I know you will see some foods, etc. that you never knew about!
What did you name your dog?
