Sick dog
Hi, my dog is sick and we can't figure out what's wrong. The vet doesn't think it was poison. He wasn't running a fever yesterday, he was vomiting green stuff, not eating or drinking water. He just lays down and doesn't want to get up. The vet thought he might have an intestinal blockage. He does eat rocks sometimes. Has anyone had this happen to their dog before. He is so sad and totally not acting like himself.

What has the vet advised you to do? If he has swallowed a stone that is causing an internal blockage he needs to be operated on fast. My friend nearly lost her dog because he did that. The vet operated just in time.

Surely if the vet thought possible GI foreign body he would have suggested abdominal x-rays? Did you do that?

A dog that doesn't eat or drink water for extended periods of time and is generally lethargic is trying to tell you that s/he needs help! Get to the vet, get an xray, just get yourself and your pooch there asap. We can only hazard a guess about what's going on, the vet is trained to handle these situations. If you care about your dog get there ASAP!!! Good luck, hope everything turns out good.

Didn't the vet recommend any immediate operation or x-ray on her/him? It's tough situation for you and I'm sorry. Hope he/she could get immediate medical attention as the situation getting serious. Please keep us updated.

Need a Different Vet!?
It sounds like your vet is not doing his job or you aren't allowing him too---I know these things cost money but How much is your dog worth to you!? And if the vet just isn't following through on this--GET A DIFFERENT VET!! Do something now before it is too late!
As far as poisonous things he could of got in to--Do you have any mushrooms growing where he could get at them. To check for other possibilities along this line---Check out the thread titled Foods That are Hazardous to Your Dog in the Dog Health and Nutrition forum/section in here.
What kind of dog do you have and how old? Name?

As I follow this post I am in awe. It amazes me that people think they can have a furbaby with no costs involved! Since when did raising a 2 legged child or a 4 legged child become free.
If your pet needs a vet in order to live, then you need to go to the vets. If he is your long time vet, he should be willing to let you make payments on his bill-some money is better than no money. And if you are not satisfied with the care or lack of, he is giving you, then change vets.

I agree with you 1000%!!! In this case, I don't know if it's a reluctance to spend money on proper medical care or a vet who should have his licence to practice flushed down the nearest toilet.
A suspected intestinal blockage is an emergency situation. I don't understand why x-rays weren't done to arrive at a definitive diagnosis and the poster hasn't explained the reasoning behind it.
All I know is if it were one of my dogs, I wouldn't have left that office without a definitive answer and a clear treatment plan which in this case almost surely involves surgery to remove the blockage.
I too am appalled at this situation. It simply doesn't make sense to me.
