Hello from Ireland
Just want to say Hi. Hello!! My 2 best friends are an 18 month year old female GSD-boarder collie x, called Relty (from the Irish Réaltín, little star) and a male I've started calling Chap ('cause he's a happy Chappy) 2ish year old ??? , I will post a picture of the ??? 'cause I cant figure out the breed (cross), He's a stray I picked up about 3/4 weeks ago. Again just want to say hi to all you doggie lovers out there. Happy walking

Welcome to the forum!
Hi--Hope you like it here! Yes, please do show a pic of Chappy! I like trying to figure out the mixes--no expert but do my best! Would also like to see a pic of Relty if you have one. As far as guessing on the dog's 'make-up' --- think a lot of members enjoy this and some are quite good at it.

Thanks for the welcome folks it's nice to be here . Here are a few pics. Relty is 18 mnths (the black one) GSD/B collie x with a brain to match her lineage. We've been together since she was 6 wks old, and I can honestly say I have never loved a dog (and I've had a few) so much, she's my shining Star. Anyone know what Chappy is. He's about the size of a large male B'Collie with a slightly heavier build. The 2 of them are like an old married couple even though he only arrived a few weeks ago. Cheers!!! PS how do I upload an avitar all I can find is edit? Thanks.

Wow they are gorgeous buddies, I love that Relty tongue out. I see chappy as BC too and that chest looks from a sheltie.

Thanks a mill lil mut :-) Sometimes Relty forgets where her tongue is (it's always in the same place, hanging out the side of her closed mouth) and we'd be nose to nose with her trying to lick me but her tongue goes up slapping the side of her face. That has me in tears of laughter when it happens. Cheers Happy Walking !!!!!

That is really funny! Makes me wonder if this Relty is a character! Have any other good 'tales' to tell about her? She sure looks like a happy, healthy dog! And I do love her expressive eyes--pretty dog!

I was only just thinking of this picture while walking past the same spot in the woods earlier. She spent about 10 mins draging this "stick" out of a ditch then lay down with her "throw this for me look on her" So I managed to throw it about 20 foot away, off she went and fetched it, dragging it to my feet. I'ts not the biggest she ever dragged by a long shot, she went through a phase of bringing what I can only describe as trees for me to throw Now I've heard of sporting breeds, hearding breeds, toy etc but A LOGGING breed (must have Canadian ancestry) Thanks corky/max for the lovely comments

Some concerns
Good pic! Sorry to say now my serious side is taking over though! She must be a strong little girl but I am worrying that maybe it is not a good idea for the health of the dog to be pulling (or lifting) such big sticks/trees! Could put a lot of pressure on the back and legs--also may harm the teeth! Just because she will do this, does not mean it is good for her to be doing! Don't know if it could create problems on the order of hip dysplasia but it can't be good anyway just putting all that weight on the spine. The spine is a delicate thing I think in dogs and it doesn't take much to do harm there!
Sorry to 'bring you down' so to speak but I love dogs and don't want to see bad things happen to them! I am also wondering about that long hanging out tongue---Maybe there is too much to be able to keep it in her mouth. Don't know if this could be good---tongue would certainly dry out fast. Does she drink, do you think, a lot of water maybe because of this? Just wanted to bring this to your attention to think about---Maybe you have already talked to a vet about it. Hope she doesn't get excited some time and bite it off--You'd think it would be in her way a lot from the way it looks in the pic!
Well, I hope I haven't ruined your day--but I needed to tell you of my concerns. Wouldn't want that wonderful dog to have any problems. Wish I was able to reach out and pet her!

Thanks very much for your concern I do appreciate it (I shows how much you care) .But just to put your mind at rest Relty does have a slightly large tongue for her size but it's not a problem for her, I might have given the wrong impression there. She often has it hanging out the side but not excessively, I could show you many many more pictures of her without it hanging out or looking like any normal doggie tongue. She has no hydration probs and has never bitten it, we are together 24hrs a day so I know everything that goes on with her. As for the tree dragging, I put a stop to that quite quickly for the very reasons you mentioned. I only mentioned it here because it was quite an amusing episode. She is a very strong dog for her size and very fit (we cycle about 10/15 miles a day, trotting not running), because she isn't yet 2 I dont allow anything that could damage her still growing muscle & bone. Again thanks for the concern. Happy walking!!!!!

I was hoping to hear I had no need for concern! Thank you for replying so fast.
You sound like a very good 'mom' to your dogs--which I am also glad to know!

I know exactly what you mean--Me neither! Glad to have you in the forum! As usual I'm having a hard time leaving but I best get my butt in gear---Turkey to cook (yah! for the dogs mostly!), yams to dehydrate for dog treats, squash and pumpkin to get in the oven while turkey is roasting--from my garden,Lol, yep I garden mainly for veggies for my 2 boys(dogs) and then I have some egg shells to put in grinder to pulverize for the dogs for calcium-----Everything is for my 2 boys. You can see their pics. in my album on my profile page.
So you can see I also 'am owned' by the 2 little buggers! Hey, do you have any nicknames for your 2? Mine get called a lot of things--Paxer for my Max; Corky gets called Corker Porker or Corky-Porky (and he isn't even fat!) They both get called honey-bunners, sweetie pots, bugger babies and a lot more!

Great looking dogs your 2, how old are they, are they related?
Hi Corky.....Hi Max..woof woof.
Because I'm from Cork in Ireland people I know in other parts of the country call me Corky.
I often call Relty "big nose" 'cause when she was younger her nose grew faster & totally out of proportion with the rest of her. When I call her that she knows somethimg good is gonna happen (food, walk etc).
Chappy I call "mo cú" which is the Irish for my hound. He responds well to that because I only officially named him Chap about 3/4 days ago, and was just calling him Cú (hound... pronounced koo) up till then.
Hope ye all enjoyed your food, we have all just our dinner here the 2 are both entwined together on the couch with chappy snoring like a demented elephant. Take it easy. Slán.

Thanks for the comments on my 2 boys! A lot of those pics were from the past years but the 2 haven't changed in looks much. They are getting up there in age though---Corky was 11 on June 13th and Max was 10 on April 1st. No, they aren't related. Corky is from a cocker spaniel mother and not sure of the father but I figure the father must have been at least part golden retriever. Long story, just give short details---My exhusband (Ex at the time too) knew I wanted a cocker spaniel and he knew these friends of his who had a cocker that had a bunch of pups. The dogs they had pretty much run free so don't know what the father was---Not the best situation but the wife loved dogs and took good care of them otherwise.
But being as they run loose and it was in a rural area--I took 31 fleas off of Corky that 1st night!(after I made the ex stay and babysit while I went to town to get some dog food and other supplies I needed for the pup plus a flea comb!)----Just lucky I never got fleas in the house! I wasn't ready to have a dog yet--wanted to wait till I retired but I carried Corky around all day when the ex brought him over and sure enough I kept him! Now Max is the purebred cocker and I got him about a year later in order for Corky to not be alone all day while I was at work. There is about 10 months difference in their age. Of course I wouldn't give either of them up--They are like my children--had them for 10 and 11 yrs. now.

About the avator!----------
quote:PS how do I upload an avitar all I can find is edit? Thanks.
I just talked to Yogi (one of the moderators) There has been a lot of trouble with getting that to work for us and it is still being worked on--But Yogi can go 'behind the scenes' so to speak and put it in for you. You need to go edit it again--It will not show up where you can see it but Yogi can see it when he comes in tomorrow on his screens so you need go get the pic you want for an avator and edit it like you were putting it in and then Yogi can put it in for you through his moderator 'controls' Lol, I'm not telling this very well but hope you get the idea!

Thanks YOGI I feel like part of the family now Cheers.
Corky/Max I love all dogs (all animals really) but have a soft spot for spaniels. Reltys best friend when she was a young pup was a springer/red setter x , I often thought if I could connect her (the setters) tail up to a generator I could power half of Co Cork. .
10/11 years a fair age, do you feel like they've been with you all your life? Apart from my childhood dog who was with me from when I was 5 and I took him for THAT last visit to the vet when I was 21, I've only had one dog for over 10 years (a slightly neurotic B Collie ) while she was still with me it felt like she had always been there (I'm getting a lump in my throat thinking of those 2 dogs). Without any doubt I think the hardest thing about having/loving dogs is their life span compared to us. Whoa!!....time to cheer up...
You were lucky with the flea buisness been in many a house (not mine) where had to tuck the trouser legs into me socks (some people dont even seem to be aware of the little buggers). Well off to work now, starting basic training for a neighbours lovely but totally out of controll 2 year old Lab (fingers crossed). take it easy bye.
